AJMI kicks off the second round of its project “Independent Initiatives Support”

In the second round of its project “Independent Initiatives Support”, Al Jazeera Media Institute is opening doors for institutions and small community and initiatives to apply for supporting their initiatives and ideas to become media projects that reinforce efforts to shed light on important development issues and endeavors to build a better future for communities in Arab region as part of the Global South.

 This year, the project comes under the name “Voices from the South”, as it synchronizes with a difficult period in Arab region, represented by the war on Gaza Strip, which has posed major challenges for small enterprises working to provide information and knowledge for the public.

 The project aims to strengthen independent media voices representing communities of the Global South and associated with its causes and problems. The Institute invites institutions and initiatives concerned with journalism and media to apply for the competition according to certain conditions, including submitting CVs of the team, providing a letter of recommendation from a party or person capable of recommending the project, in addition to other conditions.

 The project seeks to support initiatives dealing with digital media development, media literacy, storytelling development in addition to institutions and initiatives that working to improve and develop ability of journalists within institutions to tell news stories, specialized and community journalism, in-depth and analytical journalism, and sustainable development.

 The Institute provides in-kind support for initiatives with no more than $ 5,000, represented in free training courses to raise staff efficiency of the initiative, strategic plans to develop initiative management, follow-ups and meetings with specialists to develop idea and content, develop digital platforms, develop visual identity, and develop journalistic narrative tools.

Given that the project does not provide cash support grants, salaries or bonuses for journalists or purchase of equipment and equipment.

Beneficiaries of support are limited to independent media initiatives, small media organizations, media students, and media colleges.
