In 1921, Ernest C. Schirmer founded his own music publishing company, the E.C. Schirmer Music Company in Boston, Mass.. Apart from the fact that Ernest C. Schirmer was the nephew of the great music publisher Gustav Schirmer, the two companies never were related. The E.C. Schirmer Music Company was owned by the Schirmer family until 1985 when it was taken over by Robert Schunemann. In 1989 E.C. Schirmer Music Company bought the Galaxy Music Corporation. Today, E.C. Schirmer is part of ECS Publishing, a company that also holds other music publishing companies and is situated in Boston, Mass..
