The main updates have to do with ar5iv's content being fully regenerated with LaTeXML 0.8.7, which is now ready for native MathML Core (expected in all browsers in 2023).

Other minor updates include:

  • slightly less awkward CSS setup, though more refactoring is likely
  • starting to move towards daily updates (not yet ready), and now serving the latest versions for the vast majority of articles.
  • offer some web fonts to fall back on, especially for math
  • some minor fixes related to Redis robustness (limit cachable value size), and asset access (more depth was needed)

It has been a fruitful just about full year since the public release of ar5iv. A lot remains to be done - especially in the "Article Viewer" project, which hasn't been properly initiated just yet. Our gratitude to the community for the hundreds of reports in 2022 - please keep sending more our way!

ar5iv is now moving closer towards native arXiv integration, and that will be a broader theme to explore in 2023.

Release mark for our public announcement:

  • newest CSS v0.7.2
  • defaults to lang="en" for line-breaking justified text
  • vendor-specific meta tags with fishing for description and title
  • dirty templates vs dom templates benchmarks;
    • keeping the regex hackery in for the short-term
    • also motivates doing less in this repository, and more in latexml itself
    • most document HTML upgrades can be seen as post-processors in latexml
  • tweaks for small displays
  • arxiv id added to page titles (but not to meta titles)
  • hide TeX download button -- hidden, developer-only, for now
  • "feeling lucky" exploration feature
  • support version suffixes in arxiv paper links (just discard, we only have v1)
  • made the w3c validator happy
  • some love for the logo and its social card
  • added simple robots.txt
  • issue template and "report issue" button for ar5iv readers
  • activate theme JS early
  • try and fail to do a better loading-spinner for mathjax typesetting on mobile devices (help wanted!)
