Michael Avallone, né le 27 octobre 1924 à New York et mort le 26 février 1999 à Los Angeles en Californie, est un écrivain américain de roman policier.

Biographie

Michael Avallone grandit dans le Bronx avec ses seize frères et sœurs. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il sert en Europe et obtient le grade de sergent. Après la guerre, il se consacre à l’écriture.

Écrivain prolifique, il utilise, outre son patronyme, dix-huit pseudonymes, dont plusieurs féminins, et écrit plusieurs centaines de nouvelles, romans, novélisations dans les genres policier, gothique, aventure, science-fiction, western, érotisme, espionnage, fantastique.

Dans son premier livre publié en 1953, The Tall Dolores, il crée le personnage de Ed Noon, un détective privé new-yorkais, qui apparaît dans quarante-quatre romans et une vingtaine de nouvelles.

Sous le pseudonyme de Nick Carter, un nom-maison, il signe des romans d'espionnage.

De 1962 à 1965, il édite le bulletin de la Mystery Writers of America.
