Etymology

Inherited from Latin ūniō, with the Aromanian suffix -escu or through a late Vulgar Latin form *ūnēscō, as with many fourth conjugation verbs. Compare Romanian uni, unesc, Italian unire, unisco, Catalan unir, uneixo, French unir, unis.
