[edit]A combination of Irish tur ("dry, insipid, frugal") + -aire ("noun-forming suffix"). The root tur is from Proto-Indo-European *ters- ("dry").

- A person who eats food without any sauce, meat or condiments.
- Someone who lacks a sense of humour.
- Someone who is unbearably dry, stiff and lifeless.
