[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Possibly a substrate connection with Albanian tharbët (“sour, acrid”) or derived from Albanian. Nevertheless, the final voiceless dental plosive [t] is usually retained in derivations from Albanian just like in Romanian sat, from Old Romanian fsat, most likely from Albanian fshat. The result in final [d] may be explained by an analogy to the non-productive adjectival suffix -ed, from Latin -idus, -idum, as in Romanian fraged.
