[edit]From a Slavic language, from Proto-Slavic *prǭdъ. Compare Serbo-Croatian prud (“sandbank”), Slovene prod (“gravel”), Slovak prúd (“stream, flow, current”), Polish prąd (“flow, current”), Russian пруд (prud, “pond”).[1]
