  1. Obsolete spelling of peanut.
    • 1855, H. W. Potts, Pigs and Their Management, page 76:
      Tests were conducted at Arkansas, and other experiment stations, where pigs were fed on pea-nuts, and the gain per day in forty-six days averaged 0.57 lb. pork.
    • 1889, Jerome K. Jerome, Three Men in a Boat [] [1]:
      The more we peeled, the more peel there seemed to be left on; by the time we had got all the peel off and all the eyes out, there was no potato left—at least none worth speaking of. George came and had a look at it—it was about the size of a pea-nut.
