Borrowed from Old Ruthenian мосендзъ (mosendz), from Old Polish mosiądz, from Proto-Slavic *mosędzь, from Old High German *massing, from Proto-West Germanic [Term?], from Latin massa (mass, bulk (of material)), from Ancient Greek μᾶζᾰ (mâza, lump, mass). Doublet of mísingis.
