[edit]Originally the future of now archaic lamh (whence lamháil), from Middle Irish lamaid, from Old Irish ro·laimethar, from Proto-Celtic *lamyeti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃lm̥H-yé-ti (“to tire; to break”).[1][2]
