[edit]From Malay katrij, borrowed from English cartridge, from corruption of French cartouche, from Italian cartuccia, a diminutive of carta, from Latin charta, from Ancient Greek χάρτης (khártēs). Doublet of kardus, kartel, karton, kartu, and kertas.
