[edit]From Proto-Vietic *k-ə-ceːt (surface form of morphologically *k-pr-ceːt, with *-pr- reduced to *-r- then to a vocalic element), the causative form of *k-ceːt (“to die”) (whence chết). Cognate with Chut [Rục] kuciːt⁷ ("to kill"), Proto-Monic *k-r-cət (“to kill”) (whence Mon ဂစိုတ်).
