[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain; possibly from Proto-Albanian: *spukja,[1] either cognate with Latvian spèks (“strength”),[2] from Proto-Indo-European *speh₁- (“to succeed, prosper”) or Ancient Greek φῦσα (phûsa, “breath; bellows”), Old Armenian փուք (pʻukʻ, “breath”), Lithuanian pùsti (“to swell”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)pew- (“to inflate”).[1] Alternatively, from *fujqi,[3] borrowed from Vulgar Latin *fulcius, from Latin fulcīō (“to prop up; to support; to make strong”),[4]
