[edit]From Proto-Celtic *koudeti, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kewdʰ- (“to cover, wrap, encase”),[1][2] + -io (forming verbnouns). Cognate with Cornish cuthe, Breton cuzaff, English hide, Latin custōs, Ancient Greek κεύθω (keúthō, “to conceal”), Sanskrit कुहरम् (kuharam, “cave”).
