Indonesian etymology
[edit]The etymology claiming a derivation from Javanese is suspect since it was added by a banned user. 70.172.194.25 01:32, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

- @Chuck Entz: Unlike many learned 20th century borrowings in Indonesian from Old Javanese of ultimate Sanskrit origin, this is clearly an old borrowing from Sanskrit into both Malay and Javanese (and other western Indonesian languages, cf. the Karo and Toba entries). In fact, it is even plausible that Modern Javanese purba is actually reborrowed from (or at least remodeled after) Malay purba, since in Old Javanese, only pūrwa is attested. –Austronesier (talk) 18:08, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
