SOP: see occasional, sense 3 ("Intended for use as the occasion requires."). Compare occasional chair, occasional bed, occasional bookcase, etc. PUC – 19:49, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Have not checked, but I suspect that "occasional table" was the first form, and the general adjectival use of "occasional" derived from that... which might be an argument to keep. Equinox ◑ 13:10, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- I would keep occasional table, as both Oxford and Collins have it. Then there's the translations... Cambridge says French guéridon is an occasional table, it's definitely a small table, but PUC could help out here. DonnanZ (talk) 20:45, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Donnanz: I've removed occasional table from this RFD.
- Regarding guéridon, there might be some overlap, but I'm not sure it's a good translation. occasional table seems to be about function, while guéridon is about form. PUC – 09:43, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
- @PUC: Fair enough, cheers. DonnanZ (talk) 14:19, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
