[edit]Because the region had previously been controlled by Turks, and some of the settlers were Swabians.

[edit]- A region of southwestern Hungary inhabited by an ethnic German minority who settled there, beginning in the late 1600s after the land was conquered from the Ottoman Empire, from the Palatinate, Hesse, Swabia, Bavaria and elsewhere.
