From Middle Low German sprēker, sprēkere (also sprāker, sprākere), a regularisation of earlier Middle Low German sprēke (speaker), from Old Saxon *spreko, from Proto-Germanic *sprekô (speaker), equivalent to spreken +‎ -er.
