From Pre-Germanic *kʷólpo-, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷelp- (to curve). Related to Ancient Greek κόλπος (kólpos, bosom, lap),[1] Latin culpa (mistake, fault),[2] and Persian کلبه (kolbe, cottage).
