[edit]Anglicized form of Scottish Gaelic and Northern Irish Mac Ámoinn (“son of Ámoinn”), a Gaelicized form of the Old Norse personal name Amundr, which is composed of the elements agi (“awe, terror”) and mundr (“protection”).
