[edit]From Middle High German mūsfalle, mūsvalle, from Old High German mūsfalla, from Proto-West Germanic *mūsfallā (“mousetrap”), equivalent to Maus + -e- + Falle. Cognate with German Low German Muusfalle, Muusfall (“mousetrap”), Dutch muizenval (“mousetrap”), Saterland Frisian Muusefalle (“mousetrap”), English mousefall (“mousetrap”).
