Serbo-Croatian
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *-išče.
Suffix
[edit]-ište (Cyrillic spelling -иште)
- Suffix appended to words to create a neuter noun, usually denoting a place where an action occurs (noćište), and less commonly used to form augmentatives (ljudište).
Usage notes
[edit]- In the older formations the ◌̑ accent falls onto the -i-, and is then retracted in Neo-Štokavian: blȁto > blatȋšte > blàtīšte.
- Newer formations usually retain the accent of the base word: ìgra > ìgralīšte.
