Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Manchu ᡴᡳᡵᡤᡳᠰ (kirgis, “Yenisei Kirghiz”). The term was originally referring to the Yenisei Kirghiz people during the Qing period, whereas 布魯特/布鲁特 (Bùlǔtè) was used to call the Tian Shan Kirghiz.
