[edit]From ἐφελκύω (ephelkúō, “to draw to oneself, appeal, attract”) + -σῐς (-sis). έφελκύω is a variant of ἐφέλκω (ephélkō, “to draw in; bring on; drag, pull towards; amass, attract; trail after”), from ἐπῐ- (epi-, “on, upon, at, near”) + ἕλκω (hélkō, “to draw, drag, pull on”).
