Cognate with Mizo kal (“kidney”), Chepang गल् (gəl, “kidney”), Tangut 𗹼 (*khiwa¹, “kidney”), Burmese ခါး (hka:, “waist”), Chinese 荷 (*ɡaːlʔ, “to carry, to bear”), Chinese 可 (*kʰaːlʔ, “to be able to”).
