[edit]From Proto-Tai *ɗajꟲ (“to obtain”). Cognate with Lao ໄດ້ (dai), Northern Thai ᨯᩱ᩶, Lü ᦺᦡᧉ (ḋay²), Shan လႆႈ (lāi), Tai Dam ꪼꪒ꫁, Zhuang ndaej. Compare Sui qdyais (“to get, to obtain”), Southern Kam lis (“to get”), Proto-Hlai *ɗɯː (“to get”).
