[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘮𑘰𑘝𑘱𑘊𑘨 (hātiera), 𑘮𑘰𑘝𑘱𑘧𑘨 (hātiyara), 𑘮𑘰𑘝𑘱𑘧𑘹𑘨 (hātiyera), 𑘮𑘰𑘝𑘹𑘨 (hātera), 𑘮𑘰𑘞𑘱𑘊𑘨 (hāthiera), 𑘮𑘰𑘞𑘱𑘧𑘹𑘨 (hāthiyera), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀳𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀺𑀬𑀸𑀭 (hatthiyāra), from Sanskrit *हस्तकार (hastakāra), from हस्त (hásta, “hand”) + कार (kāra, “effort, exertion”). Compare Gujarati હથિયાર (hathiyār), Hindustani ہَتِھیَار (hathiyār) / हथियार (hathiyār), Sindhi هَٿِيارُ / हथिआरु, Punjabi ਹਥਿਆਰ (hathiāra) / ہَتھیار (hatheyār), Bengali হাতিয়ার (hatiẏar), Dhivehi ހަތިޔާރު (hatiyāru).
