Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *wr̥Hmíš (“wave”), from Proto-Indo-European wl̥H-mí-s (“wave”), from *welH- (“to turn, coil”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬨𐬌 (varəmi), Lithuanian vilnis, Old Church Slavonic вльна (vlĭna), Albanian valë, German Welle.
