[edit]From Arabic جَيْش (jayš). "j" often becomes "d" under the influence of a sibilant.[1] Compare شدر (šadar) from Arabic شَجَر (šajar) and دحش (daħš) from Arabic جَحْش (jaḥš). Cognate with Chadian Arabic دیش (dēš).
