[edit]A Turkic borrowing, probably via Kumyk хынжал (xınjal).[1] Compare Nogai кынжал (kınjal), Crimean Tatar къанджер, ханджер, гъанджер, Tatar хәнҗәр (xäncär), Yakut кынчаал (kıncaal). Related to Persian خنجر (xanjar).
