Borrowed from Russian кадр (kadr) or directly from French cadre; from Italian quadro (framed painting, square), from Latin quadrum. Doublet of ка́дро (kádro).

Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish قادر (kadir, kadır, capable; mighty), from Arabic قَادِر (qādir, capable, able; mighty).

Cognates include Turkish kadir, Macedonian кадар (kadar), Albanian kadër and Aromanian cadãr.
