[edit]From Akkadian 𒆳𒆗𒁺 (/Kaldu/), variant of 𒅗𒃻𒁺 (/Kašdu/), either by dissimilation or as a rendering of the Chaldean lateral ŝ. Cognate of Biblical Hebrew כַּשְׂדִּי (kaśdī, “Chaldean”), Aramaic כַּשְׂדָּי (kaśdāy, “Chaldaean”).[1][2][3]
