Welcome Wikipedian

[edit]

Hello Pikolas! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

If you are a Wikipedian, or have previously used Wikipedia, then you may notice some differences in the style of our articles. These include:

  • "External links" → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.

Thank you for contributing to the phrasebooks, cycling and others. If you need anything let me know or one of the Administrators or active contributors. - Tom Holland (Xltel) (talk) 23:22, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Brazil

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your edits to the Brazil article! I did delete your table of people, though, partly because it's a montage and also because the subject of the photos is people. Both these things are outside of the guidelines in Wikivoyage:Image policy. Also, it seemed encyclopedic, and therefore more suited to Wikipedia than to a travel-centric guide. Do visitors really gain much from knowing all those details? If so, they can be explained briefly in prose.

Again, thanks for helping, and I hope it's not too annoying to you that part of your work was deleted here.

All the best,

Biribol

[edit]

Hi there. Our policy doesn't really operate solely on a basis of "notability". We have travel topic articles, but you may notice that we don't have general articles for most sports - no Soccer, no Ice Hockey, no Basketball etc. We do have a few very specific articles for highly popular spectator sports which are common reasons for travel, such as Baseball in the United States, Formula One, and Football in Europe, focused on when and where a traveller should go to watch these events (not on what the sports/events are, rules, famous players, etc.). However, I don't think Biribol lives up to those in terms of people who will travel for that purpose. Since it is a relatively minor sport, practically unknown outside Brazil, and not really that popular within it (I've spent almost two years in Brazil and have rarely heard of it), it is probably best if we just put a couple of sentences about it in the main Brazil article. If ever someday the sport takes off and the Brazil article really starts having too much information that is actually relevant to the traveller about this sport, we might consider splitting it out at that time.
