Talk:Alice Springs
Hermannsburg links to the Hermannsburg in Germany not Australia!
have added in some information I feel is important about visiting aboriginal communities - just some of the rules. Also, a bit about staying safe. Alice is a safe place, but its worth reminding people to be safe as some travellers forget this when visiting areas outside of cities...
The Link to the "King's Canyon" directs to a U.S. national park..

- Try again. I think you'll find that it links to Watarrka National Park, which is located in the Northern Territory region of Australia. King's Canyon is an attraction within this park. (WT-en) WindHorse 07:51, 17 June 2007 (EDT)
- Forget my comments above. The first contributor didn't sign, and I didn't read the second part fully. (WT-en) WindHorse 07:53, 17 June 2007 (EDT)

[edit]Hi, thanks for your impressive work on Alice Springs. The Get Out section is rather exhaustive. I would suggest to move it or parts of it to a higher level (Northern Territory or Red center). What do you think ?

Hey, I think that's me - not sure but I think I did most of the editing there. I do have a login but I was lazy and didn't sign in. Thank you for the compliment! I couldn't believe how small the Alice Springs page was considering how much there is to do out here! It *is* a small town, but we're not *that* small.
It is a lot on the "get out" section, but the location out here is so remote that there is no other practical base of operations for accessing these areas - Maybe they should also be in the NT page too? But there's no way to get to the gorges from Darwin without stopping in Alice. It's sort of a big cluster of trails and roads that start here in Alice and only go to these gaps and gorges, little day trips, unless you're packing out for a week or so to go four wheel driving. Do you live out here?

crime
[edit]what about a section on crime and safety in this areA?
driving after dark
[edit]i have never seen a car rental agreement which prohibits driving after dark. i'll remove this section from the article, unless anyone has evidence to the contrary. --(WT-en) Inas 21:07, 1 September 2008 (EDT)
- I followed up on my own issue, and it turns out that a few car rental companies prohibit driving after dusk outside towns. I have updated the article. --(WT-en) Inas 18:53, 10 September 2008 (EDT)

[edit]Hi I'm Lex, in regards to all Northern Territory information I have added, you may notice that some of the text I am adding appears in another website eg travelnt.com, that is because I am the original author. --Lex 11:39, 19 September 2008 (EDT)

Car Insurance Void on unpaved roads
[edit]It might be worth adding to the "By Car" section that most car rental companies won't provide insurance for a 2WD once you get onto an unpaved road. Since there's a lot of them round travelers might need to consider if they won't be better of with a 4WD (source).
