Your shortcut
[edit]After being notified about this project by a member of the WP:WA team, I have noticed that your chosen shortcut WP:NT is already in use by Wikipedia:Navigational templates. This has been commented out of your portal for the time being until it can be sorted out, and a note has been placed the following note on the above page - "This article is about Wikipedia Navigational Templates. For Wikipedia Project on the Northern Territory, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Northern Territory.". Cheers Thewinchester (talk) 07:52, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
My suggestion is WPANT as a shortcut or worse case scenario - NrthT or something similar SatuSuro 07:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- WP:TOPEND? – Riana ऋ 08:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- WP:AUSNT? However, such a naming convention for all other state shortcuts might have to be considered if going down this path? Thewinchester (talk) 08:41, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I like WP:TOPEND :) SatuSuro 09:51, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Although technically the Top End doesn't apply to the whole territory :) Still, has a nice ring to it. – Riana ऋ 09:53, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- WP:NEVERNEVER ? :P Orderinchaos 10:24, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- I like! :) – Riana ऋ 10:28, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- WP:NEVERNEVER ? :P Orderinchaos 10:24, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Maybe we should short list and have a vote? SatuSuro 10:31, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Enough talking. WP:NTA and WT:NTA created. They can always be changed, deleted or added to. —Moondyne 04:25, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
WP Australia template updates
[edit]Have just dropped a note on Template talk:WP Australia to have it updated to add NT to the city-specific project list. As the template has full protection, if there's an admin out there who can expedite the change i'd appreciate it. Thewinchester (talk) 08:46, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Let's get it off the ground first, I'll add it in after that. – Riana ऋ 09:44, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Big thanks
[edit]To Riana and all others for getting this project up so well so quick - thanks SatuSuro 03:08, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Anyone
[edit]Who has this talk page on watch- we need time to time to try encourage interest/more eds - well worth trying to encourage others to join or edit SatuSuro 11:28, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'll be participating more when my assignments ease up. Orderinchaos 12:58, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
So, this is off to a great start ;)
[edit]I know it's exam time for lots of people, so what say we start up some sort of collaboration in July? Pick an article to work on, get it up to scratch? It would be nice to get the basics like Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs, Uluru etc up to standard. Riana ⁂ 10:06, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Very good idea- even prior to that we need to have even small levels of work over time so the project dosnt earn the 'dead' tag some others get SatuSuro 07:04, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it looks like not much has happened so far, but I think this is a great idea, and I'd be happy to help. If Darwin ever comes up, I have a load of notes still sitting around in my research folder from when it was ACOTF a couple of years back that never got added to the article for some reason. Hi There
[edit]Just joined the project, I currently live in the NT. I do a lot of photography as a hobbie as well, so one of the first thing I will do is to go through the photo requests and add photos to articles as needed. Do you guys want to assess the quality, or the applicability of the photos before i publish them? Luis v silva (talk) 05:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- Considering the NT is severely lacking in photographers uploading to Wikipedia, any and all photographic contributions are welcome. You could of course upload your images to Wikimedia Commons and point us to the relevant Commons gallery if you'd like an outside opinion on what to include here at the English Wikipedia. -- Longhair\talk 05:59, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- Generally any clear photo applied to something closely related to it will be fine without review :) As Longhair said, it's probably best to sign up a Commons account and upload photos there so that they work not only here but on other Wikipedias as well (French, German etc). Orderinchaos 12:03, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Wikimedians to the Games
[edit]If there are any sport fans lurking around, Wikimedians to the Games is a collaboration drive to improve Australian Paralympic articles, with the most active contributors having an opportunity to go attend the Paralympic Games and to cover the Games behind the scenes with a press pass. The top two contributors will get their airfare and accommodation paid for. :) The drive official starts on 10 January 2012. --LauraHale (talk) 10:02, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let anyone with an interest in these articles about NT community newspapers know that I have proposed deletion of them because they don't appear to establish any notability. Dfadden (talk) 11:56, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride 2014, a campaign to create and improve LGBT-related content at Wikipedia and its sister projects. The campaign will take place throughout the month of June, culminating with a multinational edit-a-thon on June 21. Meetups are being held in some cities, or you can participate remotely. All constructive edits are welcome in order to contribute to Wikipedia's mission of providing quality, accurate information. Articles within Category:LGBT in Oceania may be of particular interest. You can also upload LGBT-related images by participating in Wikimedia Commons' LGBT-related photo challenge. You are encouraged to share the results of your work here. Happy editing! --Another Believer (Talk) 20:25, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
[edit]Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
[edit]Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Charles Chapman
[edit]I have created an entry for Charles "Pop" Chapman" who was a colourful character in early 20th century Central Australia. He was a gold prospector and businessman who founded the Centralian Advocate. Additional input welcomed!
WikiConfererence Australia 2015 - Save the date 3-5 October 2015
[edit]Our first Australian conference for Wikipedians/Wikimedians will be held 3-5 October 2015. Organised by Wikimedia Australia, there will be a 2-day conference (Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October) with an optional 3rd day (Monday 5 October) for specialist topics (unconference discussions, training sessions, etc). The venue is the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane. So put those dates in your diary! Note: Monday is a public holiday is some states but not others. Read about it here: WikiConference Australia 2015
As part of that page, there are now sections for you to:
- indicate your interest in possibly attending the conference (this is not a binding commitment, of course)
- add suggestions for topics to include in the conference: what you would like to hear/discuss (again, there is no commit to you presenting/organising that topic, although it’s great if you are willing to do so), or indicate your enthusiasm for any existing topic on the list by adding a note of support underneath it
It would really help our planning if you could let us know about possible attendance and the kind of topics that would make you want to come. If you don’t want to express your views on-wiki, please email me at kerry.raymond@wikimedia.org.au or committee@wikimedia.org.au
We are hoping to have travel subsidies available to assist active Australasian Wikipedians to attend the conference, although we are not currently in a position to provide details, but be assured we are doing everything we can to make it possible for active Australian Wikipedians to come to the conference. Kerry (talk) 00:19, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Folks, just letting you know we will not be proceeding with Wikiconference Australia 2015 originally proposed for 3-5 October 2015. Thanks to those of you who expressed your support. You are free to attend the football finals instead :-) Kerry (talk) 08:11, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
New 5000 Challenge for Australia
[edit]Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge and the wider Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Australia and Oceania like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Australia but fuelled by a contest if desirable to really get articles on every state/territory and subject mass improved. After every 100 articles done for Australia this would feed into the main Oceania one. I will start a 1000 one for your state if there is the support. I would like some support from wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start anyway with some articles to make doing a Destubathon for Australia and Oceania worthwhile! Cheers.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:14, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
[edit]The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
[edit]On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:50, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
Hi! I've noticed that there hasn't been much discussion on the talk page or on the Project page lately, so I wanted to ask whether you consider WikiProject Northern Territory to be active, semi-active, or inactive. Cheers! Pilaz (talk) 07:36, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
None of the above - Australian subprojects are continually active with content/articles being regularly edited, whether a project page is inert really in the end seems superfluous as the actual content is what shows what is happening with the project, imho. JarrahTree 09:07, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
User script to detect unreliable sources
[edit]I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
This is a one time notice and can't be unsubscribed from. Delivered by: MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:02, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
