Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Nigeria
Points of interest related to Nigeria on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Nigeria. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Nigeria|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Nigeria. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Africa.

Non-notable individual, fails WP:GNG/WP:NBIO (no significant coverage in multiple secondary, independent, reliable sources afaics).
As for WP:NPROF, I think the only criterion that could potentially apply is criterion 6 (The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society.
), which (according to the notes for this criterion) may apply if the person has held the post of president or chancellor (or vice-chancellor in countries where this is the top academic post) of a significant accredited college or university
, but [l]esser administrative posts (provost, dean, department chair, etc.) are generally not sufficient to qualify under Criterion 6 alone
(the same goes for an appointment as an acting president/chancellor/vice-chancellor
). As stated in the article, the subject does seem to be the vice president of (and dean at) the International School of Management (ISM) Lagos (no Wikipedia article; official website), an accredited private business school. However, given that a brochure by and for the school ([1]) lists a president, I'm concluding that vice president is indeed not the top post, which is why I don't believe this criterion is satified, and thus I would argue that the subject fails WP:NPROF as well. - Delete Not notable, per above reasoning. Despite WP:RSNG saying that Blueprint is a "generally reliable" source, the source that focuses on the paper itself is very suspiciously promotional. The other two sources focus on an awards show associated with the newspaper, which I don't believe to establish notability. Upon searching, the only other mentions in notable news sources are about the paper's founder opening up a hospital, which also doesn't establish notability. Jordano53 07:18, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

- This is the challenge with cryptocurrency enterprenuers. This fellow has been building and gaining recognition for it since 2017, what else is sustained notabillity? WP:SUSTAINED
- It also sufficiently satisfies WP:NOTPROMOTION. Oyindebrah (talk) 09:20, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: @Oyindebrah:I am still finding it very difficult to understand how this article is not promotional? Or are there any other sources apart from those listed in the article? Ok, let's take a brief look at them. Shall we?
- Source 1 is a promotional piece. The lead of the article clearly started with puffy sentences:
Danny Oyekan can be said to have the entrepreneurial spirit ingrained in him from birth.
How is that even possible? Another one:He was amongst the first wave of Bitcoin investors and is considered a pioneer in establishing the use of virtual currency in the African market.
Who named him pioneer?
- Source 1 is a promotional piece. The lead of the article clearly started with puffy sentences:
- Source 2 is unreliable and full of promotional pieces. From the first sentence
Danny Oyekan is a trailblazing tech entrepreneur, investor, passionate advocate for blockchain technology, and founding Chairman of Dan Holdings
to the lastHis journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs and cryptocurrency enthusiasts, showcasing the transformative power of embracing emerging technologies and forging one's path to success
are purely promotional.
- Source 2 is unreliable and full of promotional pieces. From the first sentence
- Source 3: Error 500
- 4 and 5: promotional pieces,
Daniel Oyekan’s journey in the world of investment is rooted in his belief in the potential of new technologies and groundbreaking ideas.
I also find it very odd that two independent news media will publish the same post words for words. It can only happen if a PR is involved.
- 4 and 5: promotional pieces,
- Sources 6, 7 and 8 is about BlockFinex and the rest are press releases. Ibjaja055 (talk) 10:25, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- I am able to access source 3 and I can confirm that it is a sponsored post. Best, Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 10:54, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Yet another article on a musician who has done literally nothing notable to pass WP:NMUSICIAN. Sources from here and a cursory search suggests nothing useful. They're either interviews with the subject, or routine coverages that are entirely dependent on the subject. This is, as usual, a properly written article from the author on a non-notable musician to pretend notability. Also, the TurnTable Certification System of Nigeria is dubious in its entirety. Delete: Most of the sources are either puff pieces that are meant to confer notability on him or interviews. Ibjaja055 (talk) 21:17, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Has written more than one major hit record, automatically meets WP:COMPOSER, just like a scriptwriter or director who has directed multiple award-winning movies. Even if he doesn't pass GNG, but passes WP:FILMS, he automatically establishes notability. Likewise he passes WP:ANYBIO, with a special recognition from The Recording Academy as a composer. One last thing, I would say the coverage for example [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], add up to a GNG pass, with an extensive list of production and songwriting credits from "No Girlfriend No Problem", "Away", "One Side", "Yawa No Dey End", "My Baby", and many more.--Afí-afeti (talk) 09:35, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
