Welcome to the assessment department of WikiProject Bangladesh! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's Bangladesh articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WP Bangladesh}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Bangladesh articles by quality and Category:Bangladesh articles by importance, which serve as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

How to nominate a page

[edit]

If you have made significant changes to an article and would like an outside opinion on a new rating for it, please place it at the bottom of the section for assessment requests below, using the syntax:

# {{la|ArticleName}} ~~~~

with an edit summary of "Nominating [[ArticleName]]". Please note that articles can only be given a rating up to B-class here. For Good Article class and higher, more formal reviews are needed (see table above for details).

How to review an article

[edit]
  1. Check that you have logged in; anons may not review articles.
  2. Choose an article to review, noting:
    • You cannot choose an article if you have made significant contributions to it.
    • Nominations near the top of the lists are oldest, and should be given higher priority.
  3. Read the whole article.
  4. Place the {{Album| class=| importance=}} tag at the top of the article's talk page if it does not already exist.
    • Read the quality scale and set the class parameter to B, start, stub or NA.
    • (optional) Read the importance scale and set the importance parameter to Top, High, Mid or Low.
  5. Save the talk page. If you wish to leave detailed comments about your assessment, there is an option to do so on the project banner.
  6. Remove the article from the section for assessment requests using the edit summary "Assessed [[ArticleName]]".

Frequently asked questions

[edit]
How do I add an article to the WikiProject?
Just add {{WP Bangladesh}} to the talk page; there's no need to do anything else.
How can I get my article rated?
Please list it in the section for assessment requests below.
Who can assess articles?
Any member of the Bangladesh WikiProject is free to add—or change—the rating of an article. Please add your name to the list of participants if you wish to assess articles on a regular basis.
Why didn't the reviewer leave any comments?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of articles that need to be assessed, we are unable to leave detailed comments in most cases. If you have particular questions, you might ask the person who assessed the article; they will usually be happy to provide you with their reasoning.
Where can I get more comments about my article?
The peer review department can conduct more thorough examination of articles; please submit it for review there.
What if I don't agree with a rating?
You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
Aren't the ratings subjective?
Yes, they are (see, in particular, the disclaimers on the importance scale), but it's the best system we've been able to devise; if you have a better idea, please don't hesitate to let us know!
How can I keep track of changes in article ratings?
A full log of changes over the past thirty days is available here. If you are just looking for an overview, however, the statistics may be more accessible.

If you have any other questions not listed here, please feel free to ask them on the discussion page for this department.

Instructions

[edit]

An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters in the {{WP Bangladesh}} project banner on its talk page (see the project banner instructions for more details on the exact syntax):

{{WP Bangladesh
|class=
|importance=
|attention=
|photo=
|history=
|geography=
}}

The following values may be used for the class parameter:

Articles for which a valid class is not provided are listed in Category:Unassessed Bangladesh articles. The class should be assigned according to the quality scale below.

The following values may be used for the importance parameter:

The parameter is not used if an article's class is set to NA, and may be omitted in those cases. The importance should be assigned according to the importance scale below.

Quality scale

[edit]

Importance scale

[edit]

The criteria used for rating article importance are not meant to be an absolute or canonical view of how significant the topic is. Rather, they attempt to gauge the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up the topic (and thus the immediate need to have a suitably well-written article on it). Thus, subjects with greater popular notability may be rated higher than topics which are arguably more "important" but which are of interest primarily to students of Bangladesh.

Note that general notability need not be from the perspective of editor demographics; generally notable topics should be rated similarly regardless of the country or region in which they hold said notability. Thus, topics which may seem obscure to a Western audience—but which are of high notability in other places—should still be highly rated.

Status Template Meaning of Status
Top {{Top-Class}} This article is of the utmost importance to this project, as it forms the basis of all information.
High {{High-Class}} This article is fairly important to this project, as it covers a general area of knowledge.
Mid {{Mid-Class}} This article is relatively important to this project, as it fills in some more specific knowledge of certain areas.
Low {{Low-Class}} This article is of little importance to this project, but it covers a highly specific area of knowledge or an obscure piece of trivia.
None None This article is of unknown importance to this project. It remains to be analyzed.

Requesting an assessment

[edit]

If you have made significant changes to an article and would like an outside opinion on a new rating for it, please feel free to list it below. If you are interested in more extensive comments on an article, please use the peer review department instead.

Please place new requests at the bottom of the list.

  • The article Shuvro is a very well-known and famous character in Bangladesh. The character was created by legendary novelist, Humayun Ahmed. This character deserves an article. It's a very important part of Bangladeshi literature. So, would you please review the article? Thanks a Lot! - Suborno Sabbir
  • The article British Bangladeshi has a lot of information including the history more importantly, which I have significantly developed, and I think it should be reviewed to see if it can be given a Good article or even a Featured article, because contains large amounts of information than other related article, so please can you review article? Thanks. Moshin (talk) 13:38, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please review Dhaka Residential Model College to make the article featured. It is already well-written but need more help to make it Featured. It has undergone massive editing recently.

  • Please assess the article Hefazat-e-Islam_Bangladesh, as it appears to contain significant "Neutrality" problems compared to the actual events occurred in Bangladesh. The current article requires extensive editing to record/publish bias-free historical events. Thanks. 10:30, 31 October 2013 (GMT)
Done Importance reassessed and upgraded to "mid". In November and December 2015 (before the recent flurry of improvements), the article routinely received 80-100 hits per day and placed within the 400 most-viewed Bangladesh-related articles. When a subject is important to our readers, it should be important to the project to have a well-written article about it. Congratulations on bringing the article up to GA, and good luck on your next endeavor. (Shakib Al Hasan was recently delisted from GA, hint, hint.) --Worldbruce (talk) 15:05, 30 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bangladesh Quota Reform Protests 2018 is substantially revised and expanded, I think, since it was rated "Stub"-class. Further, the extensive media coverage throughout Bangladesh, of the exceptional drama and violence surrounding this controversy, the involvement of senior leaders of the nation's principal universities, and student political organizations, the issues it addresses about the fundamental staffing composition of the national government, and the Prime Minister's own angry remarks about this issue before the Legislature, would indicate that it is a substantially more important item than the "Low" importance ranking initially given. ~ Penlite (talk) 10:47, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I second to above. This has been the repeated major topic in all the national newspapers of Bangladesh for several months. This has also been discussed multiple times in the parliament of Bangladesh. The importance ranking should definitely be above "Low" and the quality of the article should be above "Stub" class. -- Kaisernahid (talk) 03:18, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
