There are 42 entries of shrine structures designated as National Treasures of Japan. The term "National Treasure" has been used in Japan to denote certain cultural properties since 1897. The number of Shinto shrines in Japan today has been estimated at more than 150,000, with single-structure shrines being the most common. Shrine buildings might also include oratories, purification halls, offering halls called heiden (between honden and haiden), dance halls, stone or metal lanterns, fences or walls, torii, and other structures. Shrine structures were designated national treasures when the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties was implemented on June 9, 1951. As such they are eligible for government grants for repairs, maintenance, and the installation of fire-prevention facilities and other disaster-prevention systems. The prime minister of New Zealand is the country's head of government and the leader of the Cabinet, whose powers and responsibilities are defined by convention. Officially, the prime minister is appointed by the governor-general, but by convention, the prime minister must have the confidence of the House of Representatives. Originally, prime ministers headed loose coalitions of independents, which were often unstable; since the advent of political parties, the prime minister is usually the leader of the largest political party in the House. Some historians regard James FitzGerald as New Zealand's first prime minister, although a more conventional view is that neither he nor his successor (Thomas Forsaith) should properly be given that title, as New Zealand did not yet have responsible government when they served. Most commonly, Henry Sewell, who served during 1856, is regarded as New Zealand's first premier. Beginning with Sewell, forty individuals have so far held the premiership. The Australian rock band Crowded House has won 31 awards out of 68 nominations, both nationally and internationally. These including twelve ARIA Music Awards from the Australian Recording Industry Association, and eight APRA Awards from the Australasian Performing Right Association. APRA also listed their track "Don't Dream It's Over" (1986) as the seventh-best Australian song of all time in 2001. Crowded House was formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1985, by Neil Finn and Paul Hester of the New Zealand group Split Enz. Their most awarded work is "Don't Dream It's Over", from their debut album. The song has earned two ARIA Music Awards, three APRA Awards, a BMI Award, and an MTV Music Video Award. At the 1987 ARIA Music Awards, Crowded House were the first winners in the categories of Best New Talent and Song of the Year. The group's success has been across several categories; they received their most nominations in the Best Group category, winning in 1988 and 1993. At the New Zealand Music Awards, Crowded House has received five nominations, primarily in the category of International Achievement, winning in 1992, 1994 and 1995. (Full list...)

The action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man garnered 12 awards out of 77 nominations in a variety of categories, with particular praise for its story, characters, performances, and music. At the 2018 Gamers' Choice Awards, the game received eight nominations and went on to win three awards: Fan Favorite Action Game, Fan Favorite Single Player Gaming Experience, and Fan Favorite Character of the Year for Yuri Lowenthal (pictured) as Peter Parker / Spider-Man. At the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers Awards the game received twenty-one nominations and went on to win three awards for Engineering; Game, Franchise Action; and Performance in a Drama, Supporting for Laura Bailey as Mary Jane Watson. At the 22nd Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, the game earned eleven nominations and won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Animation. Marvel's Spider-Man appeared on several lists of the top video games of 2018, being ranked in first place by Wired, and second place by Apple Daily and Time. (Full list...)

The title of Best in Show is awarded annually to the dog chosen as winner of the dog show Crufts, according to conformation show rules. This title was first awarded in 1928, the initial winner being Primley Sceptre, a fawn Greyhound. Previously, Crufts had used the title of Best Champion, sponsored by the Illustrated Kennel News and awarded from 1905 to 1914. The most successful breed in the modern era since the title of Best in Show was introduced has been the English Cocker Spaniel. Of the breed's seven show titles, all but one of them were owned and bred by H. S. Lloyd from the "of Ware" kennel. Only four dogs have won Best in Show on more than one occasion, and on three of these occasions they were English Cocker Spaniels owned by Lloyd. The fourth occasion was a Labrador Retriever named Bramshaw Bob, owned by the second-most successful breeder in the show's history, Countess Lorna Howe. (Full list...)

There are more than 80 identified volcanoes in the Hawaiian–Emperor seamount chain, a series of volcanoes and seamounts extending about 6,200 kilometres (3,900 mi) across the Pacific Ocean. The chain has been produced by the movement of the oceanic crust over the Hawaiʻi hotspot, an upwelling of hot rock from the Earth's mantle. As the oceanic crust moves the volcanoes farther away from their source of magma, their eruptions become less frequent and less powerful until they eventually cease to erupt altogether. The chain can be divided into three subsections. The first, the Hawaiian archipelago, consists of the islands comprising the U.S. state of Hawaii. The second part of the chain is composed of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The oldest and most heavily eroded part of the chain are the Emperor seamounts, which are 39 to 85 million years old. American actress Anne Hathaway has won 40 awards from 101 nominations. Her film debut came with the leading role of Mia Thermopolis in the Disney comedy The Princess Diaries (2001), for which she was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. In 2008, Hathaway played a recovering drug addict in Rachel Getting Married, for which she received nominations for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. For playing Fantine, a prostitute dying of tuberculosis, in Les Misérables (2012), she won several awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress. Hathaway played a NASA scientist in the science fiction film Interstellar (2014), for which she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actress. (Full list...)

NME's Cool List was an annual listing compiled by the weekly British music magazine NME of popular musicians that they considered to be the "coolest". The first list was published on 29 October 2002, with Jack White (pictured), the lead singer of the American rock band the White Stripes, being placed at number one. Subsequent listings were topped by musicians such as Justin Timberlake, Pete Doherty and Laura Marling. Alongside the Cool List, NME also concurrently published alternative lists, such as the Fool List, the "Had It, Lost It" list, the "If Only They Rocked" list, and the Cool Places list. The Cool Lists often generated high sales for NME, as well as a large critical response from both journalists and members of the public. The magazine received criticism of its lists from various sources, including music journalists, pop stars, and drugs charities. Speaking in 2003, NME editor Conor McNicholas remarked: "All of the entries in [the Cool List] have one thing in common – the X factor." (Full list...)

In Major League Baseball (MLB), the 50 home run club is the group of batters who have hit 50 or more home runs in a single season. Babe Ruth (pictured) was the first to achieve this, doing so in 1920. By reaching the milestone, he also became the first player to hit 30 and then 40 home runs in a single-season, breaking his own record of 29 from the 1919 season. Ruth subsequently became the first player to reach the 50 home run club on four occasions, repeating the achievement in 1921, 1927 and 1928. He remained the only player to accomplish this until Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa matched his feat in 1999 and 2001, respectively, thus becoming the only players to achieve four consecutive 50 home run seasons. Barry Bonds hit the most home runs to join the club, collecting 73 in 2001. The most recent player to reach the milestone is Aaron Judge, achieving the feat for the second time during the 2022 season. In total, 30 players have reached the 50 home run club in MLB history.
