Image:SV logo.PNG and Fair Use Rationales

[edit]

Hello Whistler, I'm glad to see you're taking interest in the Southern Vectis group of articles and uploaded a better version of this image. However, while I'm sure it wasn't intentional, while you were adding information to the Fair Use Rationale for the main Southern Vectis article, the other Fair Use Rationales were deleted as well (see this diff).

You may be aware that this image should never have been used in the Route Templates and was therefore removed, but unfortunately it is still in use on other articles and the deletion of the FURs will mean it might be removed from those too. I will restore the appropriate rationales now, but in future, please could you double-check what you are deleting before deleting it. I look forward to seeing more of your contributions in these articles - may I suggest a look at Southern Vectis route 1 and route 7 as they are both very new and could probably do with a critical eye. Thank you. --Peeky44 (talk) 11:22, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SafariWebBrowserAppleHomePage.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SafariWebBrowserAppleHomePage.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Superdrug

Hey, i've got some pics of the new Superdrug Store in Wimbledon, not sure of how to put them onto the page, if i could email them to you for u to put them on, would that be possible? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris2783 (talkcontribs) 00:50, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, just added the most recent update for superdrug here is the link for the citation: http://www.retail-week.com/in-business/marketing/superdrug-plans-christmas-ad-campaign-to-win-back-shoppers/5015663.article i'm sorry not sure how to add myself!

Hi mate cheers for getting back to me, some people don't realise the leagal implications of posting articles as such, if you need to know anymore upto date info on superdrug just let me know! Chris.

Hi there, if ure talking about the deleting of the Racial discrimination case which was posted on the Superdrug page, then I did not remove this. I have updated to page to bring it more upto date with what the company has been doing throughout 2010. I did how ever notify the company about the posting, as they have only been accused in the case, and thought they should be notyifed just incase of any incriminations and the libleous nature of the article for the person who posted it. I'm all for truth, but if this article was just set about to damage a company then i'm sure that this isn't what wiki is about either! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris2783 (talkcontribs) 17:06, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Southern Vectis

[edit]

Hi Whistler. I've noticed that recently you have done a lot of work to the Southern Vectis article which has significantly helped to improve it, so thank you very much. I also noticed you uploaded File:Vectisgange.png which will be very useful as older free to use Southern Vectis related images are unfortunately few and far between. I was wondering if you had any images of buses in some of the older liveries such as the Island Explorer and Route Rouge liveries and whether it would also be possible to upload those as well? On the Wikimedia Commons Southern Vectis has a very impressive collection of more recent images but next to nothing has been taken before about 2007, so any work you do have would be very well receieved and would go a great way towards improving Wikipedia articles. Thanks again for the work so far, take care Editor5807speak 17:55, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Whistler,

Nice to see your contributing towards the Southern Vectis wiki page, the images you have sourced are very useful for the history page.

Thanks again for sharing the photos,

License tagging for File:Bestival 2010.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bestival 2010.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:07, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:20120117201405!The Guardian front page.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:20120117201405!The Guardian front page.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. A tag has been placed on File:Dani Sinha.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Re: Inaccurate logos

[edit]

Hi there. Just wanted to reply to your message on my talk page and clarify a couple of things! I do not produce vector logos, just extract them from PDFs on company websites. I will only do this if the logo is in a vector format within the PDF, so the logo should be exactly as the company intended.

Regarding the FirstGroup logo which appears on First Devon & Cornwall, I am not sure why there was a dot on the i as I cannot find the logo in this format again. Perhaps First were originally planning on having one when they launched their new logo. I've now removed the dot and the logo now appears to me to be exactly the same as on a First Devon & Cornwall bus (see Flickr: First Devon & Cornwall 69017). Please feel free to look through my uploads if you'd like, and I'll fix / revert any others with issues that exist. Thanks,   JaJaWa |talk  04:31, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of We'll Take Manhattan (1967 TV Pilot), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: We'll Take Manhattan. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 22:54, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mevio, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page BT (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Non-free use of File:SouthamptonIsleOfWightSouthOfEnglandRoyalMailSteamPacketCompanyLimited.svg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:SouthamptonIsleOfWightSouthOfEnglandRoyalMailSteamPacketCompanyLimited.svg. However, there is a concern that the use of the image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Details of this problem, and which specific criteria that the image may not meet, can be obtained by going to the image description page. If you feel that this image does meet those criteria, please place a note on the image description or talk page explaining why. Do not remove the {{di-fails NFCC}} tag itself.

An administrator will review this file within a few days, and having considered the opinions placed on the image page, may delete it in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion or remove the tag entirely. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jonteemil (talk) 15:02, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Redfunneloldlogo.svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Redfunneloldlogo.svg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Red Funnel

[edit]

Hi, I know the town is called Cowes but Red Funnel, which is what the article is about, refer to their terminal as West Cowes to avoid confusion wth the other terminal in East Cowes. Possibly not so much of a problem now the vehicle ferries no longer call at (West) Cowes. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 08:09, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Murgatroyd49 I appreciate the note. I wish it was as clear cut as this, unfortunately Red Funnel itself often confuses the two names and it's not clear if by 'West Cowes' they are referring to the town - or if they are referring solely to the terminal. I tend to take the view that if they generally refer to the town as 'West Cowes' then they are applying their own style and terminology to the town. They are calling the town as they would wish it to be called. Should Wikipedia adopt the town name used by Red Funnel? I tend to think not.
It may be worth distinguishing the terminal as 'West Cowes' but again I would suggest that this distinction may in a sense be artificial, as Red Funnel do not always make such a distinction themselves. Whistler (talk) 17:13, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

P&O

Hello Whistler, I hope you are well! I see you made a recent change on P&O. One of their subsidiaries P&O Maritime Services has now merged with another company and it is no more. I have a conflict of interest with the company so I wondered if you could help me update the article? I have added a change request on the article's Talk page. Many thanks in advance Occasionalpedestrian (talk) 12:56, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Occasionalpedestrian thanks for the note, yes I had noticed the news about P&O Maritime while looking into the company. If I get some time I'll see if I can update the article with that in mind. Whistler (talk) 19:15, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Whistler for your help! That is much more accurate now. As Maritime Services are quite a new company there may be more new information so if any more factual changes arise I might let you know if that's ok with you. All the best Occasionalpedestrian (talk) 10:55, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Moss leaflet.png. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
