Hi. When you recently edited Calque, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Congruence principle (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Toby Bartels,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at [email protected] (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at [email protected]. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Visual pun

[edit]

Namesake,

Re your comment 5 years ago(!) I just added an example visual pun (Batenburg) to the Gable stone article. TobyJ (talk) 01:41, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Great! I've added it to both Visual pun and the gallery at Batenburg. —Toby Bartels (talk) 03:37, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Univalent function may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 23:25, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's really no need to link the languages. It's pretty much against WP:OVERLINK as they're common terms, and it's highly unlikely that someone who is reading the article in English won't know what the English language is and need to click through to that article. Similarly with the other two. Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:18, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That is absolutely preposterous; but since Wikipedia decided to subordinate usefulness to looks long ago, I will not argue about it now. —Toby Bartels (talk) 18:11, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OER inquiry

[edit]

Hi Toby Bartels, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. Thanks for your support! - Sara FB (talk) 20:50, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cauchy sequence - bibliography

[edit]

Hi, in September 2006 you have added 'Constructivism in Mathematics: An Introduction' by Troelstra and van Dalen to the Cauchy sequence article bibliography (link). Can you confirm that van Dalen is Dirk van Dalen? I'd like to link the author name to the wiki page, but need to know the link would be correct. --CiaPan (talk) 06:15, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is Dirk van Dalen. I went ahead and added the link myself. —Toby Bartels (talk) 12:17, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
