Thank you.

Thanks for the anti-vandal barnstar. The articles about felids, like the cats themselves, need to be kept tidy. And, in some cases, improved. Thank you for noticing my efforts. Nice user page, BTW. Seduisant (talk) 03:36, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Articles lacking reliable references

Hi there! Thanks for your note on my Talk page. I'm now having an OMG moment about the articles listed as Wikipedia:WikiProject Children's literature/Cleanup listing#Articles lacking reliable references, which I've just started looking at. A lot of work to do there and I propose using the same criteria as for the Unreferenced BLPs. Any help you feel like giving there would be great!--Plad2 (talk) 00:08, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Assessments

Hi there! Just wanted to thank you for your help with the assessments of the articles about the places in Russia. Also wanted to point out that we normally rate the articles about the cities/towns (and larger urban-type settlements, especially those which serve as district administrative centers) as Mid-importance, and the cities which are the capitals/administrative centers of the federal subjects (like Penza) as High-importance. It's not that big of a deal, but helps keep ratings consistent. In other regards, you are doing great. Thanks again!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); February 22, 2010; 15:35 (UTC)

Announcement

Hello! I'm The Arbiter, one of the coordinators for WikiProject Zoo. I am proud to announce the launch of a new portal: Portal:Zoos and Aquariums! ZooPro, ZooFari, and I worked hard to create a new portal for information on zoos, aquariums, and the associated projects and articles on Wikipedia. If you could head on over, take a look at our work, and maybe learn some more about zoos and Wikiproject Zoo, it would be great! Cheers and Happy Editing!

Merry Christmas! Thanks for your time reviewing the article. I'll make the appropriate adjustments the following hours.Alexikoua (talk) 22:22, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

This edit of yours is pov [1] Alexikoua and although I understand your purpose since you mainly edit Greek minority of Albania articles you can't insist on adding on the lead such minor events for your own pov.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 22:24, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
I can add the appropriated sources, also per wp:lead, these are 2 events that should be added in the lead: 1993 unrest and 1997 uprising. Alexikoua (talk) 22:33, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
I can't understand why you removed both incidents, the 1997 uprising was irrelevant with the Greek community.Alexikoua (talk) 22:47, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
Minor events can't be added on the lead, while the 1997 events should be reworded since nothing actually happened in Gjirokaster.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 00:10, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Edit count on Kutch article

Hi

I forgot to say the other day but I just remembered earlier tonight, well last night now - when I was going through Diannaa's archive a couple of nights ago, looking for a previous conversation we had about years and commas, I spotted your question about that huge article edit I did.

It was the first thing I knew about it and was a little embarrassed when I realised you were right about me getting the numbers wrong.

You asked how I had got the edit count out by 30 on Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya. That has bugged me as no matter how I tried to replicate it, I could not work out how that number happened. I have tried everything, copying it into word, taking out the books and ref sections etc, adding lists back in to the prosesize count, DYKcheck, everything! Still it did not make sense.

I normally use "Article (1000 Word)" when I have used word for the calculations, and as it does not have that on my edits page, I had to assume that I didn't calculate it with Word. (plus if I had used Word it would have given 33,575 once I had stripped out the Multiple issues tag, Books, Notes and Categories)

I have been up for a couple of hours now trying to work out what it is! I literally sat here going mad because it gave the 32,711 once again, just once, but then wouldn't repeat it.

I finally realised what it was when I thought my keyboard calculator was broken - it did it again, I had just added the first number+1715, you cannot see the first number as the LCD screen only holds two lines of text, so I subtracted 1715 and there was the answer !!! Woohoo!! 30,996 - I must have mistyped the number when I was adding it up. I don't think I spotted that list of 153, so I guess it is sort of ok? (as it should have been 30,966 + 1,715 + 153 = 32,834)

Still, it is a little rather embarrassing though! Took me four hours + 1/2 a jar coffee to work that out... couldn't sleep due to the caffeine so I Huggled some vandals to make me feel better lol Chaosdruid (talk) 16:46, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

GoCE Mentor?

Hi Tea with toast,

I'm new to GoCE and saw that you are interested in mentoring new members. GoCE is the perfect fit for me (I can't believe it took me a month or so to find it!). It seems as though we have similar interests, and I'm mostly looking for a second pair on eyes on my edits as I get started. I'm also active almost exclusively on the weekend. Please let me know if you would be willing to guide me as I dive into copy editing with great vigor!

GOCE Mentoring

Hello Tea with toast,

Do you have time to mentor yet another new GoCE member? Having just completed the third course in a University of California copyediting certificate program, I no longer have an excuse to not participate with the Guild of Copy Editors—something I've been intending since becoming a Wikipedian a few months ago. Since I've a strong background in things technical, I suspect editing articles of that nature may be where I can most contribute (though I want to help where needed). Seeing that you have a science background, I am interested in your guidance.

Help with barnstars

Hi, Tea with Toast. I was wondering if you would have time to help hand out the barnstars from the March drive? with five people potentially able to help, we could have them all handed out really quickly! If you are interested, your task would be to send to people with usernames starting with the letters K through N (about ten persons). The document that gives barnstar results is here. Please let me know if you will not have time, and I will make other arrangements. Thanks. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:51, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Mentor Request for Copyediting

Hello, I'm new to the Wikipedia participant community. Initial impetus is for a university class, but I would like to find something I can contribute to over time. Looking around for a place to start being useful, and with some background in copy editing and proofreading, the Guild seemed a place to start. I'm looking for a mentor and wondered if you might be available? Appreciate your consideration. Prairiedog2011 (talk) 05:11, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks!

Very pleased to be able to have a mentor to work with! Thanks for your initial comments and suggestions. I'm going to spend some quality time with the guide, I do struggle with the syntax and various pages, and anything that helps with additional detail is appreciated. I'm hoping to start in on some backlog fairly quickly, and also found it interesting that I've already been asked for help by someone. Time to dive in! I'm looking forward to this. Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive report

GOCE July 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.

Participation

50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.

Progress report

During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.

Requests page

Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated.

Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there!

The drive will begin on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on September 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles in the backlog, as we want to copy edit as many of those as possible. Please consider copy editing an article that was tagged in 2010. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE September 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation

We have had 55 people sign up for this drive so far, and 31 have participated. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! It's not too late to join the drive if you have not already done so. Another great way to help out is to watch-list the Coordinators talk page and participate in the ongoing development of the Guild.

Progress report

So far, we have reduced the backlog by 75 articles, or about 19% of our goal. We have also cleared January 2010 off of the queue and are close to clearing off February and March. If each participant were to copy edit two articles from February and March 2010, they would be completely eliminated from the queue.

Rollover words

Several concerns have been brought up this drive about the usage of rollover words. Rollover words only count if they're from the previous drive. For example, if you received 1,000 rollover words in March and didn't participate in May, your rollover words return to zero. This is to encourage participation in multiple consecutive drives.

Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive report

GOCE September 2011 Backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.

Participation

There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!

Progress report

During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. Barnstars will be handed out this week.

Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in November, and we hope to see you there!
