Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I created the account to create a biographical article for the company I work for: POND IoT. I was unaware that you can't have a username with a company name in it as this is my first time editing on Wikipedia. So I would like to request a username change. I am not being compensated for the Wikipedia article itself, rather I just work for the company and was using this to create more brand awareness by having a biographical article for the company. I am attempting to make this article as objective as possible and will continue to do so if granted editing permissions again. I was also using this account to update information that other pages had about our company including names, links, and making sure all the information is accurate. In addition, I was making edits to other random articles for grammar, spelling, etc. I will continue to do this if editing permissions are reinstated. Thank you.

Decline reason:

No, no chance. Not only do you in fact count as a paid editor (see WP:PAID), we haven't the slightest inclination to help you with brand awareness and it's inappropriate for you to abuse Wikipedia in this manner. Yamla (talk) 10:40, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. Could I get more of an explanation on why the request has been declined? Before creating the page I did research on whether it was acceptable for businesses to create a Wikipedia page and I didn't see anything opposing this so long as the article remains objective and bias-free. For reference: https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/create-company-wikipedia-page
I also see companies within the same industry who have similar wiki pages: KORE Wireless and Sierra Wireless
In regards to counting as a paid editor, I disclosed a conflict of interest on my user page. I also took a look at the link you sent and it says that paid editors need to disclose this information which I have no issue doing. Pondiot (talk) 16:41, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You are confused and I think that you read poor advice from a third party(a third party involved in marketing, who is probably too close to the marketing field to be objective about Wikipedia editing). Companies do not "have pages" here that they write and control. Wikipedia has articles, typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the subject, who summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the topic, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of notability, such as a notable company. If you had first asked, and maybe made some other edits to practice and learn what we are looking for, this might have gone differently, but you didn't.

In addition, please see other stuff exists. It could be that these other articles you have seen are also inappropriate and simply not addressed yet. As this is a volunteer project where people do what they can, when they can, it is possible in many ways for inappropriate content to get by us. We can only address what we know about. If you want to use other articles as a model or example, use those classified as good articles, which have received community vetting.

I hope this answers some of your questions. You still will not be unblocked to, in the short term, edit about your company. If you have no other interest here, this is the end of the road. If you want to edit about other topics, please tell what- if you do that for a time and build up a good edit history showing that you understand relevant Wikipedia guidelines, you may later be permitted to indirectly contribute about your company, but not now. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 19:58, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
