Wikipedia Asian Month 2017: Invitation to Participate

[edit]

Hello! Last year, you signed up to participate in Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM) 2016 on the English Wikipedia. The event was an international success, with hundreds of editors creating thousands of articles on Asian topics across dozens of different language versions of Wikipedia.

I'd like to invite you to join us for Wikipedia Asian Month 2017, which once again lasts through the month of November. The goal is for users to create new articles on Asian-related content, each at least 3,000 bytes and 300 words in length. Editors who create at least four articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard!

Also be sure to check out the Wikipedia Asian Art Month affiliate event - creating articles on Asian art topics can get you a Metropolitan Museum of Art postcard!

If you're interested, please sign up here for the English Wikipedia. If you are interested in also working on other language editions of Wikipedia, please visit the meta page to see other participating projects. If you have any questions, please visit our talk page.

Thank you!

Hi. I have reverted an edit of yours on this article, and would like to remind you about WP:BRD. When your Bold edit has been Reverted by another editor, the recommended next step, if you continue to think the edit is necessary, is to Discuss the dispute on the article talk page with other editors, but not to re-revert it, which is the first step to edit warring, a disruptive activity which is not allowed. Discussion on the talk page is the only way we have of reaching consensus, which is central to resolving editing disputes in an amicable and collegial manner, which is why communicating your concerns to your fellow editors is essential. While the discussion is going on, the article generally should remain in the status quo ante until the consensus as to what to do is reached (see WP:STATUSQUO). Beyond My Ken (talk) 17:37, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To help move things along, I have started a discussion on the article talk page about the disputed edit, which you will find at Talk:Wingnut (politics)#Attempted removal of category. Please take the opportunity to make your views known there. It is best not to restore the material you added until there is a consensus among the editors there to do so. Thanks, Beyond My Ken (talk) 17:45, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what that means. --Nicholas0 (talk) 21:19, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
BMK had to self-revert. He can't revert again for 24 hours. On Wingnut (politics). Just in case you had other improvements you wanted to make to the article. Skyerise (talk) 21:22, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I'm not going to touch it because I don't want any accusations that I changed anything. Everyone knows that there is an issue with that article now so I can leave it up to other people to settle. I really didn't intend for my removal of the category to be so controversial. I figured it was uncontroversial because I was following the definitions in the quoted references. I really don't think that "wingnut" is a pendant equivalent to "moonbat". I think that this is a reverse etymology because "moonbat" wasn't even in common use until the 21st century so it doesn't make sense to define a much older term according to the context in which a much newer term is being used. --Nicholas0 (talk) 21:37, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, its too bad some editors make accusations, if that's how you feel. Skyerise (talk) 21:39, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It'll be okay. I expect that a reasonable solution will be reached once more people get involved and everyone will agree on what categories to include for the definition of the term and then it will be definitively settled. It'll work itself out just fine, I'm sure. --Nicholas0 (talk) 21:53, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 01:44, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to Join Wikipedia Asian Month 2023

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you participated in the Wikipedia Asian Month 2022 as an organizer or editor.

Join the Wikipedia Asian Month 2023

Dear all,

The Wikipedia Asian Month 2023[1] is coming ! The campaign start within a flexible 30 days from November to December. Following with the changes of the rules made by last year, the wish to have more people get to know Asia and Asian related topic is the same! Click "Here" to Organize/Join a WAM Event.

1. Propose "Focus Theme" related to Asia !

If you are based somewhere in Asia, or have specific passion on an Asian topic, please propose your "Focus Theme" by October 25th. The WAM international team will select 5 themes. Please propose your focus theme through this link[2].

2. Enhancing existing articles can also count as part of campaign contribution.

Any edits, including creating new articles or adding new content to existing articles, over 3000 bytes in total would be able to get a reward. Last year, due to this change of rules, the Programs & Events Dashboard was suggested. However, according to community survey of 2022, Fountain Tool is still the best platform for tracking edit and points. You don’t need to create any Dashboard. For the tracking of editing existing article, the international team is currently designing a form. Will soon publish to the main page of WAM 2023.

3. More flexible campaign time

The contribution duration would remain 30days, but we extended the overall campaign timeline to 2 months. All organizers can decide when to start their WAM as long as the whole duration is within November 1st to December 31th. It means that you can participate in WAM based on the needs of your local community.

Timetable

  • October 1st, 2023 : Publish International Campaign Page of the Year
  • October 5th to 25th, 2023 : Call for focus themes of WAM 2023.
  • Before 29 October, 2023: Complete Registration [3] of Each language Wikipedia.
  • November 1st, UTC 00:00 to December 31th, UTC 00:00, 2023: Running the Campaign. (Find your local campaign for the actual event date.)
  • January 1st to March 15th, 2024: Auditing of each language Wikipedia.
  • March 30th, 2024: Deadline of reporting statistics and eligible editors to the International Team
  • April 1st to May 15th, 2024: The international team distributes Barnstars and Certificates to eligible editors of each event.

For your information, the main page of Wikipedia Asian Month is currently undertaking a reconstruction for archiving purpose. For the 2023 event please bookmarked this page. We hope you will enjoy Wikipedia Asian Month! If you have any inquiry, feel free to contact us by info@asianmonth.wiki [4]. We look forward to your participation.

Cheers!!!

Perhaps discuss the multilingual films categories at WikiProject Film

[edit]

Hi, Nicholas0. I suggest that you discuss multilingual films categories at WT:WikiProject Film. It seems pretty clear that the films in these categories are ones that have more than one language spoken in them. I think that the top level category Category:Multilingual films has been pointed at Multiple-language version is clearly no longer accurate for the films that are in the subcategories, & that we now need to point it somewhere else based upon the common understanding that multilingualism is the use of more than one language Peaceray (talk) 14:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have opened a discussion at WT:WikiProject Film#Multilingual films and categories. Peaceray (talk) 14:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:The Law (1974 film).jpg

Thank you. — Ирука13 03:04, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia would not accept the actual URL of the source of the image. I have now changed the image to one whose source is accepted by Wikipedia. Nicholas0 (talk) 11:39, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why are you still requesting a better URL? I gave you the exact URL. It doesn't get any better than that. Nicholas0 (talk) 16:49, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. To be able to apply the {{PD-Pre1978}} template, you need to know where and when the photo was published. Otherwise, you should re-arrange the file as non-free. — Ирука13 03:08, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
