Hello, How are you? I need your help. I thank you your help in the articles and I hope you help me again in future. I ask you: Can you find more people willing writing in tropical trees, genera and families? I ask you if you could enlarge some articles making better known this group of trees in Wikipedia, adding links to genera and families and writing information and asking people if they are interested in writing about topics as tropical trees articles, tropical forest articles or botanical or biodiversity articles. Do you know Wikipedia forums that could be interested about these type of articles? They are welcome too. I thank you very much.

I am from Spain and my mother language is not English language. Many country side areas, and Natural areas and Living beings are in Countries where population cannot collaborate with Wikipedia, but their Natural World and its highly economically valuable species are very important too in the human knowledge and developtment of the mankind. People should have information because these matters are important, not just a curiosity only. This unknow world is from Poles to ecuator, in unoccupied oceanic areas closely to Europe, in Deserts as Sahara, or whatever. But to me the main aim is to gather the abundant information disperse about living communities and living beings that have existed for millions of years because they are disappearing and in 20 years they will are not longer exist. Greetings, To address your questions, I have had bad experiences with the automatic taxbox not letting me include information that is easily included in a regular taxbos. Unless it has changed, at one point automatic taxboxes where intended for use with palaeontology-related articles and not recommended for other taxa. This might have been the reason that they would not accept some fields. As regards the taxonomic issues with Monotrete, FishBase is usually the accepted authority regarding species lists and I have taken to using the FishBase lists even when there is uncertainty (as in COF and IUCN) rather than trying to include all possible lists, particularly in shorter articles. If you feel that the information on the taxonomic issues is sufficiently important, feel free to put it back in. Maybe with the changes recently in the classification of these fishes it would be a germane topic. That is the great thing about Wikipedia. Is this worth an article even though there's no mention in databases like reptarium.cz? Looks like there is no simple answer. Lisanfos places it in Leiopelmatidae but fossilworks does not assign it to any family. It seems that there no strong consensus either that Leiopelmatidae and Ascaphidae should be treated as separate families. Maybe it is best to mention that some sources place it in Leiopelmatidae? @Sandvich18: To me the maps look very good and perfectly adequate for use in Wikipedia. I don't think the IUCN maps are perfectly accurate either as most distribution maps include a degree of expert judgement. It's just veyr time consuming for me to be judging the articles, trying to contribute myself and chasing up what people have done and filling it out for people each time. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. Changing citations

Regarding your edit/revert on Paddlefish, please see WP:CITEVAR wherein it states: Editors should not attempt to change an article's established citation style merely on the grounds of personal preference, to make it match other articles, or without first seeking consensus for the change. The arbitration committee ruled in 2006: 

   Wikipedia does not mandate styles in many different areas; these include (but are not limited to) American vs. British spelling, date formats, and citation style. Where Wikipedia does not mandate a specific style, editors should not attempt to convert Wikipedia to their own preferred style, nor should they edit articles for the sole purpose of converting them to their preferred style, or removing examples of, or references to, styles which they dislike.

While updates and improvements don't always require consensus, collaboration is preferred over WP:BRD. As a courtesy, please consider suggesting changes on the TP of articles that have been promoted to WP:GA or WP:FA. Also see MOS:CT regarding title case vs sentence case. Hi, I'm doing some citation updating/maintenance and noticed that some time ago you changed Huiqing, G. to Gu, H. at Amji's salamander. IUCN's assessor list, however, gives Gu Huiqing, Michael Wai Neng Lau, but they are known to be inconsistent with their author presentation. And, to my untrained eye & ear, Gu does sound like more of a last name than Huiqing, so I just wanted to confirm with you before I convert the citation over to {{Cite journal}}. Hi, Gu is certainly the surname (1+2 syllable names are easy, the 1-syllable part is the surname. 1+1 syllable names can be tricky). IUCN seems to write most Chinese names in the Chinese style, i.e. the surname first, something that Polbot did not consider when auto-creating the articles. The same, Yuan is the surname. For mainland Chinese, IUCN appears to have been consistent in writing the surname first. I cannot recall any examples of mainlanders with Anglicized names (like Michael Wai Neng Lau, from Hong Kong). (I'll limit these to no more than 1 per day...) What about Mumpuni? I've seen this at the end of many author strings, and following several different bionomial (human) names. It looks like to me that there is no fully standard way of dealing with "de" in Portuguese names. Perhaps the best way is to try to follow the style they have used in their own publications? For example in my literature database I have "Fábio P. de Sá" who always treats "de Sá" as his surname, but it seems that most other people leave "de" out when their name is not written in full. In this case, I suggest moving Amphisbaena microcephala to Leposternon microcephalum, and redirecting "Smallhead worm lizard" to the latter. Combine Saiphos and Saiphos equalis WP articles ?

Hi, Micromesistius. Today I started cleaning up the WP article for the monotypic skink genus Saiphos. While trying to link it with French WP, I discovered that there is another separate English WP article for Saiphos equalis, the sole species in the genus. Shouldn't there be only one WP article for a monotypic taxon? I don't have the computer skills to combine them. (I can't even cut & paste.) Would you like to tackle this problem? Thank you for improving wikilinks from Pristidactylus and elsewhere. Narky Blert and I have been finding and fixing similar cases, but I'm not a taxonomist and it's great to see a subject expert sorting out the links accurately. For organizers:

Here are the basic guidance and regulations for organizers. Please remember to:

  1. use Fountain tool (you can find the usage guidance easily on meta page), or else you and your participants’ will not be able to receive the prize from WAM team.
  2. Add your language projects and organizer list to the meta page before October 29th, 2020.
  3. Inform your community members WAM 2020 is coming soon!!!
  4. If you want WAM team to share your event information on Facebook / twitter, or you want to share your WAM experience/ achievements on our blog, feel free to send an email to info@asianmonth.wiki or PM us via facebook.

If you want to hold a thematic event that is related to WAM, a.k.a. WAM sub-contest. The process is the same as the language one.

Help, please. One lizard with two WP articles.

Hello, again! And I'm requesting your help again. I just finished expanding and cleaning up the WP article for Kaestlea beddomii (Boulenger, 1887) (Squamata: Scincidae). Then I found a duplicate article for Scincella beddomei (Boulenger, 1887), which is a synonym. To resolve this redundancy, I suggest that the Scincella beddomei page be deleted, and the Kaestlea beddomii page be retained. Replacement names

The species Persicaria maculosa was first described as Polygonum persicaria L. When Gray moved it to the genus Persicaria, it couldn't be called Persicaria persicaria (L.) Gray because the ICNafp doesn't allow duplicated genus and species names. So Persicaria maculosa Gray is a nomen novum or replacement name, but this doesn't alter the relationship to Polygonum persicaria L. or date on which the species was first described. Dear all,

The Wikipedia Asian Month 2023[1] is coming ! The campaign start within a flexible 30 days from November to December. Following with the changes of the rules made by last year, the wish to have more people get to know Asia and Asian related topic is the same! Click "Here" to Organize/Join a WAM Event.


1. Propose "Focus Theme" related to Asia !

If you are based somewhere in Asia, or have specific passion on an Asian topic, please propose your "Focus Theme" by October 25th. The WAM international team will select 5 themes. Please propose your focus theme through this link[2].

2. Enhancing existing articles can also count as part of campaign contribution.

Any edits, including creating new articles or adding new content to existing articles, over 3000 bytes in total would be able to get a reward. Last year, due to this change of rules, the Programs & Events Dashboard was suggested. However, according to community survey of 2022, Fountain Tool is still the best platform for tracking edit and points. You don’t need to create any Dashboard. For the tracking of editing existing article, the international team is currently designing a form. Will soon publish to the main page of WAM 2023.

3. More flexible campaign time

The contribution duration would remain 30days, but we extended the overall campaign timeline to 2 months. All organizers can decide when to start their WAM as long as the whole duration is within November 1st to December 31th. It means that you can participate in WAM based on the needs of your local community.

Timetable

  • October 1st, 2023 : Publish International Campaign Page of the Year
  • October 5th to 25th, 2023 : Call for focus themes of WAM 2023.
  • Before 29 October, 2023: Complete Registration [3] of Each language Wikipedia.
  • November 1st, UTC 00:00 to December 31th, UTC 00:00, 2023: Running the Campaign. (Find your local campaign for the actual event date.)
  • January 1st to March 15th, 2024: Auditing of each language Wikipedia.
  • March 30th, 2024: Deadline of reporting statistics and eligible editors to the International Team
  • April 1st to May 15th, 2024: The international team distributes Barnstars and Certificates to eligible editors of each event.

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
