Question

[edit]

Hi there. Just wondering why you felt the need to apply the {{helpme}} template to another user's talk page. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 05:21, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new. I'm not sure how to report a serial vandal - 4 vandalisms in one day. I saw the helpme tag and knew it would get your attention on that page. Apologies if I did wrong and I could not find any instructions on how to report a serial vandal - I've run across a couple who have 4 or 5 "final" warnings within 3 or 4 days. Could you help with that? Manway 05:26, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If a editor has gotten a final warning recently, and has vandalized since then, you can report it at AIV. Be sure to follow the reporting instructions there, and an admin can take steps. Unless there's a backlog, it gets taken care of quickly enough. --Bfigura (talk) 05:29, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, a full guide is here. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 05:30, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of James Tyler (architect)

[edit]

A tag has been placed on James Tyler (architect) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you'd like, you can join in this discussion at Ted Watson's talk page; there, you will find a link to two other discussions concerning WillOakland's more-or-less nonconstructive edits. Cinemaniac (talkcontribscritique) 01:04, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Elks

[edit]

The mention of the early Elks as Masons is relevant because much of the traditions and requirements are nearly identical to Masons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.15.48.58 (talk) 16:20, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coors Amphitheatre question

[edit]

{{helpme}} I just found out that the Coors Aphitheatre in Chula Vista, CA has been renamed. Someone has edited the article, but the title needs to be changed. Can I do that or does it need an admin? Manway (talk) 23:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can do that, if it is questionable first place the reason on the talkpage and discuss it, Cheers. Mion (talk) 23:49, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To prevent editwarring state the reason on Talk:Coors Amphitheatre (Chula Vista, California) and invite the user who made the change to join the discussion. Mion (talk) 23:55, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

April 2008

[edit]

Sorry about that - I have removed the warning. :) The Helpful One (Review) 20:56, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I have reverted my edit - which means that your work wasn't lost. Please look at the article to find that your work is now there. The Helpful One (Review) 21:00, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, that's OK. Enjoy using Wikipedia and have a nice day! :D The Helpful One (Review) 21:05, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptions by 76.175.128.3

[edit]

I've dealt with this person's vandalism on the Grant High School (Los Angeles) page as well and have managed to get Wikipedia to do a 31-hour block on them.... Keep a watch out when that lapses....Spitwater (talk) 21:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Palisades

[edit]

I'm from Houston - the only part of LA I have been to is LAX.

When do you plan to return to Palisades? It would be great if you got pictures for the articles.

If you want to, you could make a trip to Palisades and get pictures of the following for Wikipedia:

  • Palisades HS
  • Revere MS
  • Marquez ES
  • Palisades ES
  • Palisades Library

Notable residents list

[edit]

The list can be restored bit by bit as we gain references.

Remember that we have Wikipedia:BLP and it is important that this policy is followed- every resident needs a reference. Once you get a reference, you may restore the name on the list. I can also help you with that too later today and tomorrow. If you are wondering why I didn't begin getting references immediately, sometimes quick, corrective actions are needed. A long, uncited list that violates BLP should be removed first, and then rebuilt with citations later. I also understand that some people on the list may be dead, but these lists also include living people, so it is a BLP issue. WhisperToMe (talk) 07:43, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my talk page and that of User:WhisperToMe for my commentary, and what I believe to be a misrepresentation of Wikipedia:BLP - this information is not "contentious". Edwardx (talk) 20:55, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It can be in some scenarios, and plus it's not a good idea to leave around unsourced info about living people- it's just that negative information is *worse* to leave around - either way there are sources (and I am swapping some refs that do not meet WP:RS for those that do) - so it's good. Want to make Pacific Palisades into a "Good Article?"

[edit]

Do you want to improve Pacific Palisades to the point of becoming a "Good Article"? (as classified at Wikipedia:Good article)

If you want some examples, we have Gulfton, Houston and River Oaks, Houston - I and some other WikiProject Houston worked on these articles about Houston neighborhoods. Now they are classified as good articles and I plan to see if I can make Gulfton a featured article. Anyway, do you want to help me to improve Pacific Palisades and then nominate it as a Good Article? WhisperToMe (talk) 17:37, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cool beans! One of the first things we need to do is ensure references have the article name, the title, the author (if available), the date manufactured, and the access date (often if it is not a newspaper article or if we cannot find a date of creation) - Also make sure that we use what qualifies in WP:RS (I.E. usage of blogs, fansites, etc. is discouraged - I replaced IMDB citations with citations from newspapers - Personal websites belonging to the subject (i.e. Bob Smith's website for info about Smith) is okay!) - Also, please look at Talk:Gulfton,_Houston,_Texas/GA2 to get an idea of what kind of content is needed to pass an GA review. - I improved Gulfton to the point of getting it to pass that third GA review :) WhisperToMe (talk) 07:47, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Picture Peer Review

[edit]

Hi Manway,

I saw you unsuccessfully tried to nominate an image at PPR. Looking at your edit history it seems you didn't follow the instructions and didn't create a subpage for the image nomination, but just tried to add the image itself. If you want some help I can create it for you, or just carefully follow the instructions given at the top of the page.

For what it's worth the image you were putting up, Image:Snowcynsmall.jpg would not be successful at FPC. For a start it's too small - minimum size is 1000px on at least one size. Landscape images like that would be expected to be considerably bigger. It's also far too low quality (very downsampled) and appears to have some lighting issues. If you could put up a bigger version we could give a more full review.

Mills Brothers

[edit]

I was listening to a few songs of theirs from the 1930s I just bought from AmieStreet, including some with Louis Armstrong. I had no idea those existed! - DavidWBrooks (talk) 19:36, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: my edit

[edit]

heh. Actually, that's not a bot. It's a manual tool called Huggle (HG is just the abbreviation it appends to edits) I must have done that by mistake. Thanks for letting me know. :) Thingg 00:11, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Palisades Charter and the alumni list

[edit]

Manway, the list needs a source. Having it totally unsourced makes it not in compliance with BLP. Every item needs a source so the information can be verified. It is great that the alumni association is watching it, but even so every entry needs to be individually sourced. I'm sure the BLP noticeboard would say the same thing if we asked it to clarify the issue. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:11, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to BE back!

[edit]

Well, hello! Thanks for the very nice and very welcome note on my talk page. It was a lot of fun collaborating with you on Al's article. I need to do some research and see what biographical info I can come up with in order to expand the article a bit. That Times obit was absolutely massive and I can only hope it's still online. Otherwise, it's off to the library for a peek at microfilm. Nice to hear from you and I'm looking forward to working with you again! Best, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 20:03, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Manway, No problem... I probably should have reverted the vandalism first before making my edits. Have a good day, Serouj (talk) 22:12, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BPOElks Lodge in Phillipines

[edit]

Response at the General Fraternities page. I think it should be used as an example of how to deal with disagreement. See you there :)

I think for a footnote that a {{Ref_label|a|a|none}} and {{Note_label|a|a|none}} combiantion would be more appropriate for the information.Naraht (talk) 13:09, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty fitting that it is total Greek, I copied them off the Alpha Phi Omega national conventions page. I'll try to make the change in the next 24 hours.Naraht (talk) 17:18, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notable residents

[edit]

I'll add a comment on the talk page and watch the article, but my advice to you is not to worry about it. "Notable residents" sections are the most frequently edited parts of city articles, just like "notable alumni" in college articles. In both cases they are usually the least sourced. I've learned to pay little attention to the additions and subtractions, except to keep an eye out for libellous material.   Will Beback  talk  20:51, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Meat Loaf

[edit]

I wasn't making a joke about Meat Loaf, I'm a fan. I just forgot to add the relevant link. Meat Loaf is indeed the current spokesman for A1 Steak Sauce as you can plainly see in this current commercial, from A1's own YouTube Channel. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSAa9FgTBSg Jason.cinema (talk) 10:19, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! I too thought it weird yet cool when I first saw Meat Loaf's A1 commercials a month or so ago. Mmmm...now I'm hungry for A1! Jason.cinema (talk) 10:23, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Bernadette O'Reilly page

[edit]

Hi Manway, Actually the fact that Hootie and the blowfish reverts to Breaking Records is incorrect. Their label folded. The actual breaking records http://www.breakingrecordsmusic.com is still in biz and was founded in 2006 by Bernadette O'reilly, please google her, she is worthwhile and has a ton of credits. I'm pretty dismayed that her page was deleted--and I'm not even sure if you're the person I'm supposed to contact--I saw your name at the bottom of my page... Sincerely77 (talk) 20:53, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, that ip had already been blocked when you issued your final warning on American Pie. --Admrboltz (talk) 03:51, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, your warning just popped up on my watchlist. --Admrboltz (talk)`
