— Bilorv (talk) 16:57, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Lomoraronald, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Bilorv (talk) 16:58, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of O-boy
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on O-boy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Woja Emmanuel Wani, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

Request reason:
Today I was training a couple of members on citations and adding references, and actually mistakenly published a copied part of the an article about the Otuho people, with an aim to actually tell my audience not to do that, but it got published, I am an organizer and trainer of various Wikimedia projects, I am very sorry this came up to this, but I mistakenly published the article, please revert the publication and please unblock my account since I use it a lot for trainings and for now I am the only to go person and leader of the Wikimedia community in south Sudan, I will appreciate if you help me, since I have to continue with the training tomorrow. Lomoraronald (talk) 19:42, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
Decline reason:
I've placed your statement within the unblock request as intended(it should replace the words "your reason here"). I am sorry that this affects your training of other Wikipedia editors, and I hope you can make a convincing unblock request soon, but this isn't it. It's not "likely" a copyright violation, it is a violation. Copyright violations potentially put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, so we must be convinced that you understand the issues here before unblocking you. You don't need to tell us we can "block you forever"; no one wants to do that, we want you to understand what is going on here. 331dot (talk) 06:39, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- If this was a one-off, I wouldn't have blocked. But your talk page shows a long history of copyright violations: warning in March 2020, warning in April 2020, another notice in April 2020, warning in October 2021, G12 speedy deletion in March 2022, G12 speedy deletion in September 2022. That's a staggering number of copyright warnings for an editor with only 141 edits. I also removed a copyright violation you added to Nakivale Refugee Settlement in September 2023, in addition to the one from today at Otuho people. It does not appear that any of the previous warnings have had an effect on your editing. So I'm sorry to say that I'm not quite convinced that you understand the issue here or that the problems wouldn't reoccur if you were unblocked. Please go through the copyright policy and formulate an unblock request that demonstrates an understanding of it, and a commitment to avoid copyright violations in the future. DanCherek (talk) 04:50, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- I understand, actually the other related violations were long ago when I was still starting to edit in Wikipedia, and yes, this was a way bigger mistake, I am not sure how I can convince you about this not happening again, but trust me, this I have read the policies, I actually train people on them now, and all I would request is an Unblock, I understand and admit my fault, and promise to never do it again, since I now better understand the policies, that copying material without the permission of the copyright holder from sources that are not public domain or compatibly licensed (unless it's a brief quotation used in accordance with Wikipedia's non-free content policy and guideline) is likely to be a copyright violation. Please and please this should never happen, we can agree and that after this if it happens just block me forever, please! I am in the middle of trying to work on our cultural programs in the country editing about our people in South Sudan, please. Lomoraronald (talk) 05:52, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Request reason:
Unblock Request
Dear Wikipedia Administrators,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request an unblock of my Wikipedia account, Lomoraronald. I fully understand the reasons behind the block, which was due to copyright violations, and I take full responsibility for my actions.
I now realize the importance of adhering to Wikipedia's copyright policy and the negative impact that violating these rules can have on the platform and its community. I have taken the time to thoroughly review Wikipedia's guidelines on copyright, particularly the necessity to ensure that all content added to Wikipedia must be either freely licensed or fall under the fair use doctrine. I am committed to strictly following these guidelines in the future.
To demonstrate my commitment to avoiding copyright violations going forward, I plan to:
- Contribute Only Original Content or Properly Licensed Material: I will ensure that any content I add is either my own original work, or I have verified that it is properly licensed for use on Wikipedia. I will use tools like Wikimedia Commons for freely licensed images and ensure that text contributions are appropriately cited and licensed.
- Thoroughly Cite Sources: I will provide proper citations for any information I contribute, ensuring that all sources are reliable and properly referenced, and that any direct quotations are clearly marked and attributed.
- Engage with the Community: I will seek guidance from experienced editors and participate in discussions to ensure my contributions are compliant with Wikipedia’s policies. I will also make use of the Wikipedia Teahouse and other help forums when I am uncertain about the suitability of content.
- Undergo Further Training: I will take advantage of available resources, such as Wikipedia’s tutorial on copyright and editing practices, to better understand the platform’s requirements and improve my contributions.
I deeply regret my previous mistakes and am dedicated to contributing positively to the Wikipedia community. I kindly ask for your understanding and an opportunity to demonstrate that I can abide by Wikipedia’s standards and contribute valuable content.
Thank you for considering my request.
Sincerely, Lomoraronald

Request reason:
Hello Dear Admins, After a while of careful reading and considerations I have finally come to understand the serious consequences my actions can cause as far as breaching Wikipedia's copyright policy, I had not properly understood it, I have come to notice that this can even lead to law suits where Wikipedia or even Wikimedia can be sued, I am so sorry for having broke this policy just as many other policies that I now fully understand, I deeply regret my actions and see for an unblock and make sure that from this time I fully commit to citing reliable sources, not copying content from such sources, I make sure that also focus on writing more accurate content on wikipedia, like doing more research on topics that I am interested in, and also making sure that I preach the same to the people I interact with, my lose taking of these policies is something i fully regret I also came to understand even other way amazing safeguarding policies like the General friendly space policy for our Wikimedia events, and how even beyond the editing we should treat each other with respect and professionalism, dear Admin, I have fully understood and I am asking please help Unblock me to continue my wikimedia Journey, thanks so Much Lomoraronald (talk) 20:25, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

- @DanCherek:, as blocking admin, do you have any input regarding the appeal? Does it adequately address any of your concerns regarding copyright?-- Ponyobons mots 22:56, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the ping! Yes, I will unblock shortly given the sincere appeal. Lomoraronald, please be careful with editing going forward, and make sure that everything is written entirely in your own words. Historically, editors who have been blocked for a second time for copyright violations have found that the second block is much, much harder to successfully appeal. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia (and your patience), and welcome back. DanCherek (talk) 01:16, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
