A belated welcome!

[edit]
The welcome may be belated, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Justlookingforthemoment. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 08:39, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the content you added to the above article appears to have been copied from elsewhere online. Copying text directly from a source is a copyright violation. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, some content had to be removed. All content you add to Wikipedia must be written in your own words. Please leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:57, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

These tables are not really encyclopedic. Maybe you should make tables of the all time highest grossing apps or something interesting to readers. I was just going to delete the tables but I thought I would let you know why. —DIYeditor (talk) 14:38, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Justlookingforthemoment, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Hi, you've copied and pasted material from the 2019 brochure (one copy found online here - [1]) with some of the information also found here. That is a copyright violation and you cannot do that on Wikipedia. You need to summarize the information in your own words. It has to be completely your own, not just changing a few things here and there - that's called close paraphrasing. I see you've been warned about this before, please don't do this again. It's a good way to be blocked from further editing. Thank you. Ravensfire (talk) 16:53, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Wedding of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

The people who were getting married arent exactly notable, but their parents are.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. Hi Begoon, This is with regard to the message you sent me today regarding my edit at Civil Services Examination (India). It must be noted that the information that I used from the PDF is not protected by copyright. If yes, can you please show me a proof. That would be better. Also, you have been repeatedly messaging me regarding Copyrights. Can you please tell me more on how exactly can we find out whether the source we are referring to is protected by copyright, and if yes, then how and when can we use it. That would help me a lot. Also, you have said that I may be blocked from editing. Can you please show me a WP article which says that users will be blocked if they violates copyright policy. I could not find one in any of the pages in Wikipedia regarding this. Hope you do it. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justlookingforthemoment (talkcontribs) 17:12, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm replying here to keep the conversation in one place. All of the questions you ask are answered in the links in the messages which I and others have given you above. I suggest you read them. In particular: Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources. In almost all cases, you may not copy text from other sources into Wikipedia. Doing so is a copyright violation and may constitute plagiarism.
  • Always write the articles in your own words and cite the sources of the article. Copyright violations are often speedily deleted. For the pdf, the website states: "Website Content Managed by © Content Owned by Union Public Service", and there is no indication otherwise in the document itself. Always assume that text and images you find on the internet are protected by copyright unless very clearly stated otherwise, and even on the very rare occasions they are not, copying large portions word for word is plagiarism.
  • See Wikipedia:Copyright violations for details of how copyright violations are dealt with, including blocking of persistent violators. Particularly see Wikipedia:Copyright_violations#Addressing contributors, which says: "Contributors who repeatedly post copyrighted material despite appropriate warning may be blocked from editing by any administrator to prevent further problems. Contributors who have extensively violated copyright policy by uploading many copyrighted files or placing copyrighted text into numerous articles may be blocked without warning for the protection of the project. These blocks are usually indefinite, pending satisfactory assurances that infringement will not continue."
  • You have now been warned many times, and have had many opportunities to read the links in the warnings. This is not a matter that you can "argue about" or "get away with". Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. -- Begoon 18:37, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A Watch-dog?

[edit]

I see, that you are keeping a check on each and every edit of mine (Justlookingforthemoment)? Why? Well, I have no problem if you do that, but please do guide me properly, and if possible send me messages in my Talk Page, so that I may improve my editing skills. Also, do send me tips and tricks for editing. It seems you are an experienced user, and may guide me on this site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justlookingforthemoment (talkcontribs) 12:32, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all. I watch many pages, and I check back on users who've had problems, such as your copyvio issues. If they are making a mess I try to clean up, and I try to explain in summaries what I've done. I'm not your mentor, or coach, but if you disagree with a change I've made, or don't understand it, I'll try to explain. On the whole, you seem to be improving. The important thing is not to repeat errors - it took you a long time to "get" the copyvio stuff that many people tried hard for ages to explain. As I said, I'm not going to be a "guide" or "coach" - I simply don't have the time - but if you take it slow, listen to advice and avoid repeating errors you'll do fine. -- Begoon 12:50, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! Thanks, I'll keep a check on that. Anyways, an off-topic question, but are you Indian? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justlookingforthemoment (talkcontribs) 13:00, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Free advice - if people don't prominently disclose personal details on wikipedia that might be because they want to keep them private, and some don't like to be asked, so beware. Anyway, no, I'm not - not that it's important, or relevant. (but I have spent some time there and, like most people, I know where, and what India is without a wikilnk... ) -- Begoon 13:15, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean? Can you please elaborate on the thing which you are speaking about i.e. disclosing personal info on WP? Also, I asked you the question because I saw you intervened in many of the edits I made to some Indian articles, like Civil Services Examination (India) and Rabindranath Tagore among others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justlookingforthemoment (talkcontribs) 15:03, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean anything sinister, just an awareness note to you that there are some wikipedians who don't like to discuss things like their location, name, gender etc., and might not react well to such questions. I'm not one of them - that I am male, English born, Australian resident is no secret - it's also rarely relevant in the context of editing the encyclopedia. As a side note, the {{Quote}} template is a bit unwieldy for talk page discussions, breaking up the format as it does, particularly for just one sentence. You might prefer {{tq}} which works "like this", clearly distinguishing the quoted text without breaking up the paragraph. That's only for talk page use, of course, not in articles. -- Begoon 23:53, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: List of IIT JEE Toppers

Hello Justlookingforthemoment, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of List of IIT JEE Toppers, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: none of those criteria apply. Thanks for your edit to TikTok. I undid it for now, since TikTok videos are not restricted to fifteen seconds in duration. I recommend that you conduct some research on the app before adding information in. If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this message. Thanks!

Also, I have seen that you have tried to insert copyrighted sources onto Wikipedia. Recent GA nominations

[edit]

Justlookingforthemoment, you have nominated a number of articles for GA lately, and as best I can determine you are not a significant editor to any of them. Two of them have already been quickfailed, indicating that you don't have a firm grasp on how to apply the GA criteria: particularly, what level of prose, sourcing, etc. are required for an article to be considered a GA, which are not the same as what a random editor might consider "good" for an article.

The GA nomination instructions make it clear that Nominators who are not significant contributors to the article should consult regular editors of the article on the article talk page prior to a nomination. The reason is that they will know better than anyone what work still needs to be done on the article, or where its weak points are, or what doesn't meet the criteria. You haven't done this for any of your nominations, so I will be reverting them. If you wish to do the consultation, which should last for at least seven days, if the consensus at the end is that the article is ready to be nominated, by all means do so at that time.

It's great that you're interested in the GA process. You should be aware that the nominator is expected to work on the article to address the issues raised in the course of the nomination; if you don't, then there really isn't any point in nominating, because the nomination will fail if the inevitable problems aren't corrected. Thank you for your understanding. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:27, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, and I may do leave a message on talk page for the article to get nominated for Good Article, but what if no recent editor of that article replies. That there is a very small chance of the recent/active editors of that article to come back and see the talk page, and participate in the discussion process. That will make the nomination delay by a long time. So, is there any other alternative for that?
I, am sorry that I should have left a message on that talk page for the nomination, but I did not do that. Instead, whichever articles I felt met the criteria, nominated them. But do not just blindly revert them, do consider at least once in reviewing those articles, some of them I feel may pass the review and become "Good". Thanks a lot for your guidance. Optakeover, I'm similarly mystified. I notice you do a lot of anti-vandalism work, and it concerns me that you would issue a 'vandalism' warning for that edit. A new user could be upset and dissuaded from contributing further on receipt of a seemingly unfounded 'vandalism' warning such as that. You might not like the edit stylistically, but I really don't see anything approaching vandalism. Maybe I'm missing something? -- Begoon 05:38, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Citation style

[edit]

Hi, it's general practice to respect the existing citation style (including the names of headings) in an article. Please don't alter them with edit summaries like "improve headings" because you are actually just changing them from one preference to another. You should respect the existing style unless you have a good reason to change it. --Laser brain (talk) 13:33, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

...And pleeeeease don’t interconvert “References” and “Further reading” as they’re completely different things. “References” is for sources used by Wikipedia contributors in creating and verifying article content. “Further reading” is for readers who want to learn more. This is explained at WP:LAYOUT. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 13:44, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Blanking

[edit]

Don't blank redirects. If you think there is a better target, retarget them. If you think they shouldn't exist, nominate them for deletion. If you think a properly sourced, non copyright-violating, notable article or fully sourced, notable list article can be made instead of the redirect(s) then make it/them. Blanking is not a constructive option and looks very much done to attempt to make some sort of point when done rapidly in close succession. Thank you. -- Begoon 16:33, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I will keep that in mind. Thanks! Justlookingforthemoment (talk) 17:42, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please, stop reverting my edits

[edit]

In the article Infection, The "Diagnosis" section really contained extremely few references, with large portions of text and some sections completely unreferenced. Since WP believes in WP:VERIFY, hence I had put that tag at the top of the section. If you have any problem/suggestion regarding it, please put up a message on my Talk page, but please respect the fact that I had put up the tag in WP:AGF, and hence, stop targeting my edits and reverting those with useless opinions of yours. Thanks! Justlookingforthemoment (talk) 15:14, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And yes, as per your explanation, you want me to put up a {{citation needed}} tag at each and every line of that section, which is impractical and impossible and would not at all look good. I had just put up a simple {{More citations needed}} tag at the top of a section, and it was really that simple, but it seems you have no other work to do but just attack on each of my edits here, so you need to say something, which doesn't matter whether its even practical or not, so please stop doing it. Justlookingforthemoment (talk) 15:20, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't revert "all your edits" - don't be silly. Some of the edits you make are poor, and I sometimes revert or alter some of them if I notice. The particular one about which you are whining is poor, as is a lot of the gratuitous tagging you do (see WP:DRIVEBY). What's impractical about explaining your tag on the talk page? That's the sensible thing to do, and what any reasonable person would do if they'd been asked three times for an explanation for a tag they were trying to place and failing to do correctly. What good to other editors looking for an explanation is you rattling on about it on my talk page instead of article talk where they will look? And in response you have just petulantly replaced the tag with no explanation there again... mind blowingly unhelpful - you need to read WP:WAR. If you don't want your edits reverting in future then actually read the reasons your edits are reverted, and act on them - and don't be so belligerent - it's mildly annoying.
