Userbox Mania
[edit]I've started a discussion about userbox guidelines at the village pump. Feel free to comment. --TantalumTelluride 05:48, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- I don't mean to threaten your userbox page or anything. I just want to establish some guidelines on the creation of templates and categories for the user namespace. I don't really care about server performance as much as I am concerned about the conflict userboxes have caused throughout the community. Hopefully, we can establish a set of guidelines that will put an end to the bitter debates in WP:TfD. Oh, and Happy New Year! --TantalumTelluride 06:08, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Re: your new sig
[edit]I'm sure there's nothing wrong with you changing your sig. But if your sig doesn't match your username there is always some danger of people ending up at the wrong user page, especially newbies. It's pretty common to set up redirects in these cases. e.g. User:Nixie. Snottygobble | Talk 05:48, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Convict History
[edit]Thanks for your comments I hope to do a lot more work on the Round house article. A new photo would be great. Glad you agree with the cats, Its about raising the profile of WA history. I want to do some workon the Port Arthur one too, I was a guide there for four years so much info is missing. Ghostieguide 14:49, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Vcxlor. When I created Round House yesterday I remembered your photo but I don't have access to it at the moment. I'll add it to the article as soon as I can access it. Probably on the 9th. Snottygobble | Talk 01:46, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
Karmel Kandreva
[edit]To be true, that one had me also stumbed for a while. Hope someone else can fix the rest of it. Btw, you probably know but to be sure. You can change your username of you want to at Wikipedia:Changing username Garion96 (talk) 15:06, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Zoetmulder
[edit]Hey I have been off from the internet for more than two months and I notice you put a message on my Indonesian discussion page some weeks ago. Thank you for your compliments on my articles about Zoetmulder! I admire Zoetmulder because I am student of (Old) Javanese literature like himself and I am a Catholic myself. Well c u later! Userbox Mania
[edit]I told you this would happen. A considerable deal of Wikipedia's resources—human, server, and financial—are now being wasted on this whole userbox mess. TfD, CfD, MfD, RfC, RfAr, and over seventy experienced editors are caught up in the mêlée. Userboxes are EVIL! --TantalumTelluride 19:46, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Topsy Turvy
[edit]After the Jaromil episode, I see you're in no doubt about some of the others I have come across, whom I thought I should give an option to do something. Oh well it is wiki. Best of the new year to you!SatuSuro 16:28, 5 January 2006 (UTC)aka vcxlor
- I'm not sure what you mean? If you think I'm being harsh or something, give me an example, maybe I've been rushing to judgment. NickelShoe 16:32, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
I think you're referring to me changing "losmen" to something like "small hotel" and "warung" to "food stall". I think the latter is much clearer for readers who aren't familiar with Indonesia; while those terms are part of the vocabulary of anyone who's spent even a tiny bit of time there, someone who hasn't visited there wouldn't know them. I don't think they add much - "food stall" describes "warung" pretty well, and without the confusion for people who don't know any Indonesian. This is also roughly in line with the conventions at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English). CDC (talk) 16:49, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
By the way, apologies for not replying to your previous notes; been distract-able lately. Nice stuff in Imogiri, though I haven't really had a chance to go through it thoroughly yet. CDC (talk) 17:03, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Kuntara Wiryamartana
[edit]Well actually I met this person quite recently. Perhaps we can write an article about him :-) I have a picture of him. BTW were you a student in Yogya? It's almost 1 Sura! Did you know that there is also a village called Jimbaran in Semarang regency? Meursault2004 10:51, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- Artikel di Kompas? Bisa dibaca online tidak? Saya sudah lama mau ke Imagiri tapi belum sempat ... Tempo hari saya ke Asta Mangadeg tempat ibu Tien di Karanganyar. Meursault2004 14:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Re: Franklin
[edit]Hi. If there are three Franklin Rivers in Australia, there are not three articles; a disambiguation page is intended to direct people to articles, not to provide information on the topic. At least, there was only one link to a "Franklin River" on the version I came across. Each article on Franklin River, and only the articles on Franklin River, and only those which are prone to ambiguity, has one entry on the dab page — hence, I placed one entry for Franklin River on the page. If there are other articles titled "Franklin River", please point me to them. Neonumbers 01:02, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, no worries, and thanks, and apologies if I overreacted (there are some who take a different view as to what a dab page's purpose is). Now I see what you're getting at. (I just unlinked "Tasmania", as we generally don't link non-dab links, and added "Australia", so it says [[Franklin River]], Tasmania, Australia.)
- I'm from Auckland, and my geography's not up to scratch — sorry! You could try me anyway. Best wishes. Neonumbers 07:33, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- :-) The manual's only been around for six months. If you've got time, there's a Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation too. Cheers, Neonumbers 10:06, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Re: Great strike of 1917
[edit]You should know by now I'm way too WA focussed to contemplate writing an article on the great strike. The conditions imposed on the Waterside Workers Federation after the great strike were the main cause of the Fremantle wharf crisis of 1919, which is what I'm really focussed on. I've been trying to put together a Background section for the Fremantle wharf crisis, but the information I have on the great strike is so vague and simplistic (and sometimes contradictory) that I feel I really need to properly read up on the great strike before I can take it any further. Snottygobble | Talk 06:49, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- I wholeheartedly agree. There's just way too much to know, and only one lifetime to know it all in. Snottygobble | Talk 11:09, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Re:Round House photo
[edit]Welcome. Drew (Snottygobble | Talk) 02:12, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yagan is pretty much finished; we're just waiting on a copyedit and we'll be taking it to WP:FAC. This could be our first WA-related featured article! As for this parliament thing, it's not a new project, it's just a case of a big mess that needs cleaning up. Drew (Snottygobble | Talk) 02:27, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
