Hello, James343e, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Tiger

[edit]

I have removed your "citation needed" tag from the lead section of Tiger. The lead is supposed to be a summary of the rest of the article. The maximum weight of a tiger in the wild is mentioned and cited in the main text and therefore it does not need to be cited in the lead. In fact we are encouraged not to cite anything in the lead because there should be no information there that is not included in the rest of the article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:13, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Thanks for the clarification. I made a little change, I added the word "exceptionally". If you think it's unnecesary, feel free to change it. James343e (talk) 20:13, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is chess a sport?

[edit]

I see that you changed the Chess article from saying chess is a game to saying it is a sport. I have started a discussion at the Wikipedia Reference Desk regarding the classification of chess at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities#Is chess a sport or a game? Are all games sports? where you are welcome to contribute. Regards, Edison (talk) 21:29, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I have been busy and I didn't see your message until now. I just wanted to say that some board games are recognized as sports. In particular, chess is considered both a board game and a sport, it's not a contradiction. Chess is recognized as a sport by the Consejo Superior de Deportes (the Spanish Government organisation for regulating the development of sport in Spain), and the International Olympic Committee (this organization also admits bridge as a sport) James343e (talk) 23:11, 32 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Citation templates

[edit]

Please consider using citation templates for placing citations in wikimarkup. This helps to give a consistent look & feel to citations, & I believe it will aid in the eventual transfer of this data to Wikidata. We're not doing the latter yet, but eventually it will come.

You can also use VisualEditor to create citations by using the Citoid automatic option.

Cristiano Ronaldo

[edit]

I noticed you commenting on the citations on the Cristiano Ronaldo page. I suggest that the 2013 quote from Mourinho (in Note 1) needs to be removed as in 2016 he named Pele, Maradona and Messi as the three greatest of all time, what do you tihnk? http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/690890/Manchester-United-News-Gossip-Rumours-Jose-Mourinho-Top-Three-Players-Messi-Not-Ronaldo Thanks O'Flannery (talk) 02:01, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edit linking to the role of experiment in scientific method leads me to hope you may be interested in this: hypothetico-deductive method. It describes a 4-step "algorithm" for handling the unknown. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 12:16, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

List of most-viewed YouTube videos

[edit]

All the views in the list must be rounded, so if Gangnam Style has 2.994 billion views you must rounded to 2.99 billions, but if the song has 2.996 billion views you must rounded to 3.00 billions--Luke Stark 96 (talk) 23:50, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits on science

[edit]

Hi, James343e. I recently reverted your edits on science because several of the sources are self-published (e.g., a blog) and are therefore not acceptable as sources on wikipedia. For details, please visit one of our policy pages ([[WP:RS}}) on what constitutes a reliable source. Also, the second part of the sentence (while others do consider the formal sciences to be part of science, but different from the empirical sciences) is not consistent with the cited source. I strongly recommend that you discuss this issue on the talk page (Talk:science) before making further edits of this kind to the lead. Thanks. danielkueh (talk) 19:37, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I reinstated part of the changes you made as I was able to verify the Bishop citation. The self-published are still excluded. Thanks for the contribution. danielkueh (talk) 19:52, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

CR

[edit]

1. My changes were good and there was no need to remove them - you did it nastily. If you want to talk to me something - you can do this on my discussion page, not there. 2. They changed information about CR during the match, but did't change dates and they were making a mess. There is a simple rule - this type of change is done after the match, not during. Control copyright icon Hello James343e, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Spontaneous generation have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Doug Weller talk 16:42, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Alex de Minaur, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Spanish (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:12, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please note WP:USERGENERATED content is not allowed, and audience score such as those from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes should not be added to film articles, as you did to The Man in the Iron Mask (1998 film) -- 109.78.207.234 (talk) 20:32, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dostoevsky as psychologist

[edit]

Re this edit, it seems to me that the link to human psychology in the second sentence is similarly problematic. Would you agree? Harold the Sheep (talk) 02:21, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see you’ve discovered the worst page on Wikipedia

[edit]

And while I applaud your efforts to make sense of it, the current consensus is for Tiger versus lion because, and I am not joking, tigers are bigger (per the talk archives.) Anyway, the page should be deleted but it won’t be because it’s someone who has a recognizable name’s pet page. I only reverted you because otherwise there would be people mad. Anyway, if you want to try to improve the title WP:RM is the way to go. Don’t try to rename it as a comparison article, though, because it’s explicitly about who would win in a fight 🙄.
